Back in September, AirTran announced it would begin nonstop service to Key West from Orlando with 737-700s – though Orlando is only an intermediate stop as the flights originate or terminate in Atlanta. Then, shockingly (
), Delta decided soon after that it would add mainline service (also 737-700s) to Atlanta in addition to pre-existing service operated with CRJ-700s.
Funnily enough, both carriers started service on the same day. My friend Chris Weyer was able to snap pictures of both inaugural flights receiving water cannon salutes:

I say YAY!
My father lives in Tampa and we normally make the 5hr drive down to the Keys once every few years. There have been puddle jumpers previously and were too costly. With all the additional flights, I would love to be able to fly right in to the Keys without having the long drive. However that drive is on of the best in the country!
David,
Continental Express (Gulfstream Intl. Airlines) flies TPA-EYW with the Beach 1900.

All right! Now it’ll be easier than ever to head to the Ernest Hemingway look-alike contest each year!
I was shocked to see that AirTran service from Orlando (mco) but Delta flying a daily flight what a shock to but good . I wish Delta would bring a couple of those 737′s to Tricities again we lost our 737 service in 1997.
