A Year-Old Trip Report Part Two: CDG-BCN and First Day in Barcelona

First, apparently the first installment was not formatting properly in some browsers (thanks to Ben for pointing that out). I think I have it fixed, so feel free to take another look if you were experiencing that problem. Anyway, here’s the list of parts:

Parts:

  1. Introduction/BOS-CDG
  2. CDG-BCN and First Day in Barcelona
  3. Figueres and Girona (and Some Barcelona)
  4. Barcelona
  5. Montserrat and Valencia
  6. Valencia and Madrid
  7. Madrid
  8. Segovia, El Escorial, and Madrid
  9. MAD-CDG and CDG-BOS

So, I left off at leaving our flight from Boston, so next was customs, which was bad. Obviously, the 747 is a large aircraft. Therefore, having two customs officers (and having one leave midway) to check passports isn’t exactly good. I was actually concerned about making our connection on time. There was a flight leaving for Barcelona at seven, and someone on our flight was booked on it, and she missed the flight. I’m actually surprised that she was allowed to book that itinerary, with only a 50 minute layover for an international connection.

Anyway, we eventually got through customs and had to hustle as we had to change from terminal 2E to 2F, which was a bit of a walk. I enjoyed it, though, as it was getting brighter and we passed by plenty of other international aircraft – I had never been around so many widebodies before! I don’t know, I always like being around an airport when it’s “waking up.” Continue reading ‘A Year-Old Trip Report Part Two: CDG-BCN and First Day in Barcelona’

A Year-Old Trip Report Part One: Introduction and BOS-CDG

Exactly a year ago (April 11, 2008), I set off on a school trip to Spain which was mostly composed of my fellow high school seniors but with a few juniors as well. So, why am I writing this now? Well, I wasn’t blogging back then, and Ben and Gray’s recent trip reports put me in a mood to write one. But I also decided to write this as I intend to send it out to those who were on the trip who are now at different schools as a way to say “Hi!” and to share some great memories. It’s been a very stressful few weeks at school (but with only a month left!), and, well, putting together this trip report just brought a smile to my face and kept my spirits high in the midst of papers and exams. Anyway, I’m going to split up the trip report in this way:
Parts:

  1. Introduction/BOS-CDG
  2. CDG-BCN and First Day in Barcelona
  3. Figueres and Girona (and Some Barcelona)
  4. Barcelona
  5. Montserrat and Valencia
  6. Valencia and Madrid
  7. Madrid
  8. Segovia, El Escorial, and Madrid
  9. MAD-CDG and CDG-BOS

Part 1: Introduction / BOS-CDG
April 11th finally arrived! Unfortunately, I had to go to school that day for classes, which meant getting up around 5:45 AM. I only had a little over of six hours of sleep under my belt, which wasn’t great considering the long day ahead. Anyway, I got to school and dropped off my bag and backpack and went off to class. Fortunately, one of the periods of the day was my free period, during which my friends and I always played that lovable card game, Uno. By pure chance, a good portion of that group was going on the trip anyway. After that, it was time to head to my last class, which I only had to attend half of. Eventually, 12:30 approached after what seemed like an eternity, and it was time to change out of my school uniform and head off!

My parents had come to wish me farewell (and drive my car back home), and I gave them my school bag and my dirty uniform (yeah, kind of an unfair trade), and then it was time to get on the bus to Logan. During the ride I called a few friends to say goodbye. Fortunately, traffic wasn’t too bad and we got there plenty of time before departure (about 2 PM).

Goodbye, high school! Continue reading ‘A Year-Old Trip Report Part One: Introduction and BOS-CDG’

A Visit to Maho Beach

I was very excited about my cruise because there was a stop in St. Maarten, which meant spotting at Maho Beach. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this aviation paradise, it’s a beach right at the end of the runway for St. Maarten’s Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM/TNCM). My Recent Trip on Southwest

Now that I’m semi-recovered from my trip, here’s my trip report on the flights. If you want to read about the cruise I took, then go here.

As much as I love planes, I only get to fly about once a year. This year was different, though, as I was able to fly to Europe in April. But this was the first time I’ve flown out of my local airport, T.F. Green (PVD), since last year. So let’s get to it.
