Thanks. I am a loyal AS flyer (Fairbanks, AK has little choice) and I love following the airline. Do you know of a place where the line progress and deliveries of 737 can be followed similar to what all things 787 is doing with those deliveries? Does Boeing publish it somewhere?

Would they stay in Star or be forced to go to One World AWdbaAA by the government because Star Alliance has two US based airlines COdbaUA and AW. If AW does merge with AA would they be required to stay in One World?

Nice article. There's no denying that WN is more distance-based than the other American airlines (at least out of BWI, my home airport) but yeah it seems disingenuous of them to pretend that's the sole factor

Sanjeev M,

Thanks for the info.

The real problem, in many ways, is a lack of comprehensive intermodal transportation planning in the U.S. There's also the special interest groups who lobby for roads, etc. that put their interests first.

I'm not sure about airports gouging people. The status quo is easier and cheaper for them. The advantage of a rail alternative is the dedicated right of way. But the cost of building a dedicated line is probably prohibitive.

@DesertGhost BWI's rail station is close to the terminal and connected by a free shuttle. But I think the train station is more used by local Baltimore folks than people flying into BWI.

Providence T.F. Green has rail on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor, but Amtrak doesn't want to stop there.

The problem is not that we don't have trains. We don't have any reliable buses either. Why not a branded convenient bus service every 20 min from La Guardia STRAIGHT TO 34th street. Not the current crappy city bus to the subway transfer to the city. ONE SEAT RIDE is crucial.

The reason is airport management across this country only think about short term gains, and would prefer to gouge people on parking and exclusive taxi deals than actually provide convenient public transit and encourage people to fly out of their airport in the long-run.

I would actually think airlines should run discuonted shuttles. Lufthansa has their Airport Bus for 10 EUR to center cities in Germany. Sure, its not the cheapest option but its consistent and RELIABLE.

It's too bad airports and rail passenger stations aren't linked better. From what I understand, Newark Liberty is close to an Amtrak station, but how many others in the Northeast Corridor are close? Wouldn't it be nice to directly link La Guardia or JFK with downtown Manhattan with train service into Penn Station (or Grand Central). No competing traffic. Nice quiet cars.

But of course, that costs money. It's odd that we can throw away trillions on highways (i.e. "big digs" or "bridges to nowhere") and spend virtually nothing on high speed rail where it's appropriate (note where it's appropriate). The most obvious place is the Northeast Corridor.

Further update: wikipedia reports the Saudi Arabian Airlines has retired its MD90s. A number of the Saudi MD90s were reportedly cannibalized for parts; anyone have any information on their future?
