Effective June 4th, a new award chart will be used, in this new chart, 65 hotels moving to a lower category and 89 hotels moving to a higher category. But a new Category 6, which will require 22,000 points and include only 20 properties will be there.
The worst upgrade are Hyatt Hua Hin in Thailand and Hyatt in Bali, Indonesia, from Cat 1 to cat3, the properties were the best value for suite stays. Also Hyatt Auckland is also bumped one level!
If every chain keeps creating new category, by 2020, i think every chain will have more than 10 categories.

Marriott Concierge clarified the promotion I mentioned few days ago as many members said they got “page loading error” message and thought it might be targeted.
In order to register for the promotion, you must change ur earning preference to miles and add DL number first, then you will be able to register.
Thanks for the clarification.

Since I don’t have too much time this year on US domestic run and I need to keep my BD Gold status, I booked a trip in A class from ONT-SJU for $1200, but my out of pocket is only 800 after breaking the trip into 2 one ways and used 2 $200 off certificate.
Last year, we had ONT-TPA in A class for $450 RT on UA due to most segments on Ted, you can route via many places. not too long after UA discontinued Ted, the price is no longer attactive.
Then, we had JFK-SJO on US airways routing via PHX(or more complex) for $900, but the fare excludes PHX routing now.
Then, we had LAX-FLL on US airways for $700, but it’s no longer there on *A carriers.
The only thing left for me is to SJU, routing ONT-SFO-LAX-IAD-SJU-PHL-BOS-DEN-ONT, all booked in A class except ONT-SFO in Y because of CRJ.
I know the fare is not cheap, but it can keep my Diamond Club Gold status for another year, which will grant me RCC access for a year and close to 30K status miles.
Some people may think why would I spend extra for an unnecessary trip, but complaint the ticket to EU/Asia are too expensive. The reason is simple, the return of spending on $1500++ to Asia are far less than $1500 and the fare is not even upgradable.
For $800, I got *A Gold and access to UA/CO lounge when traveling domestic, and 30K miles that nearly enough for a R/T to Europe in business class.
For $1500, I got pretty much nothing other 24K++ Redeemable miles. I ‘d rather save those $1500 for a trip from UK ro MEL, 1600+ all in with upgradable fare.

Why? check the ticket price, last year around same time, not to mention DEQM promotion offered by all legency airlines, I was able to score 1 cheap ticket on UA to FRA from LAX in June and return in July for 400+, another 1 cheap ticketon AA to FRA from LAX in July and return in Aug for 500+. Look at the price now, 1000+ for summer travel to Europe and price to Asia on UA
LAX-SIN JUN 1400++ S class
LAX-NRT June 1000++ L class
I think I just have to use my miles for the ticket if the price don’t drop by early May.
