After selling their redeemable miles for 1 year, they are now selling Elite Qualifying miles.

This along with the increase in baggage fees for overweight bags and charging for the first bag to the Caribbean leads me to wonder about their financial condition. It seems they’re trying to generate even more extra revenue than everyone else.

CO is also doing this, in a different fashion. They sell EQM instead of the status. You can have their top tier cheeply (about 8cpEQM I think) with a few thousand bucks. Does US give you miles while selling the status?

This is nothing new; this has been around for a couple of years and is very handy when your end-of-year travel gets un-scheduled and the fares are too high for a MR. But yeah, nothing new, unless it’s just another excuse for a pruned of US-bashing.
