Who will be the next airline to modify the award chart?
Many airlines have modified their award chart in 2011 including Lufthansa, Delta, United and now Air Canada. With exception of Delta, all others at least gave us 90 days notification, so who will be the next one? I am guessing it will be US airways!
Gary already had a post explained Air Canada changes in detail, basically, most best redemption value will be gone such as 100K/120K to Asia 1 in Bus/First class or 80K/100K to Europe 1 in Business/First or 100K to OZ.
The only survivor is within Asia 1, which includes China, Hong Kong, Japan, North Korea, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam. Price will still be 20K/30K/50K in Eco/Bus/First, so I can still enjoy business class ticket from China to Thailand or Singapore or Vietnam for every $15000 USD I charge to my Fideltiy AMEX card.

How much fee (fuel/tax/booking) do you need to pay approximately for each of the business Asia 1 ticket?
Troy said,
@shawn, no fuel, just some normal taxes

@Troy
I suddenly remember you said Air Canada only charge fuel surcharge on itself.
Which phone number do you call to book the Asia 1 ticket and how much booking fee, or you just use their website? I have bad luck calling their North America Center (30 minutes) waiting.

US Airways certainly has high redemption costs relative to easy of eccruing miles, and also a reasonable award chart, so they’re a good guess to be next. At the same time, it was just 16 months ago that they last raised their award prices so normally I’d expect them not to do it again for at least another 8 months.
It’s been quite awhile since American went… though if they did I’d expect tweaking and not massive increases as their chart isn’t generally all that much better than anyone else’s and for destinations like India it’s downright crazy expensive.

@shawn, online, and call center, sometimes wait long. their call center is not that bad except long wait.

Hi, Troy:
You mentioned the Fidelity AMEX card is good, I am interested in getting one. Is it part of BOA, or I have to apply through Fidelity.com, and which one is, if so.
I already have a BOA card, can I switch if they are part of BOA?
Thanks,
Troy said,
@Zhangcha, the card was issued by BOA, but different relationship, must apply via Fidelity.com. Also, I don’t think you can switch card to this one

Found it. Thank you very much, Troy. You are awesome!

Hi, Troy:
Would like to let you know, I just got the Fidelity AMEX. Thank you very much. It is indeed 2 points per dollar spend, regardless on anything. Great card. Any idea on other great spending? I am sure you know a lot.
Thanks again!

@charles, Call number on back of your card to turn of auto deposit into fidelity acct. If agent has no clue, hang up, call again!!
Other spending? Since I don’t live in states anymore, I don’t really care much about purchase made via drug store, gas station, food, but I heard Citi forward get you 10% back on dining. Chase has a card offers good points on drug stores, maybe you can get that one. check around for chase card. there is also another card offer some extra points for airline purchase, but I don’t remember and can not find reference anywhere

Great. Troy!
I will check those out. So you are taking a 30 days trip in 6 countries, let me know how that goes. Bon Voyage!

Hi, Troy:
I just got an AMEX gold card, with 50k bonus. I know currently there are some promotions for transfer, such as Delta (50% more bonus), and BA (40% more). What airline would you suggest to transfer to? I don’t think Delta miles have that much value (since they have 3 tiers award). Or other programs may you suggest?
Thank you very much,
Charles
Troy said,
@chalres, I need to check into it, no Delta for sure

Hi, Troy:
Thank you so much. You are singing to the choir. I hate Delta so much. I don’t want to have any of their miles.
Best,
Charles
