As you probably know Shanghai airline and China Eastern will merge together and become China Eastern later this year, but during the transition period, FM already gives some flights to Chna Eastern to operate, which means your original reservation will be canceled and you will arrive airport without a ticket! This is exactly what happened to me few days ago!
I arrived SHA check in counter for FM 9103 flight from SHA-PEK, the agent told me there was no such flight and I don’t have ticket and asked me to go to ticket service counter. At Service counter, I was told the flight was given to MU already, I need to provide TICKET NUMBER in order to retrieve information! Since I had my ticket number with me, they were able to retrieve and rebook me on the MU flight. they told me Ticket number is the only way for this situation to be solved, without it, nothing can be done!
So a reminder here, if you have *A award travel involve Shanghai Airline, bring your ticket number with you, not just your confirmation number, you need ticket number(the most important information on your reservation), United airline ticket number is 016xxxxx.
Update: it turns out be not just flight from PVG-PEK, it can happen on any FM operated flight because my brother in law just had same issue for CAN-WNZ on BD miles ticket.

I mentioned few times before about upcoming china Eastern alliance choices, it looks like the date is coming soon based on the following fact
Effective March 27th, FM(Shanghai airline) will move to Terminal 2 at PEK airport.
Since FM will be merged with MU and T2 is the terminal for all skyteam carriers+MU right now, MU will join Skyteam soon. Otherwise, they would just move MU to T3 now.

Finally, TAM joined star alliance yesterday. After Varig went bankrupt and exited the star alliance few years ago, there was no south American Carrier in the Alliance, which made award redemption within south America on Lan airlines(one world) only. With this addition to the network, we will have more access to South American countries with our Star Allaince carriers miles
Great move!

Air Canada has some super cheap business one way fare from KUL-LAX/SAN/SEA/SFO.
bookable on expedia.com, using multi city search.
book under
KUL-SIN,
SIN-HKG,
HKG-SAN/LAX/SEA/SFO,
the trip should under $1300 USD in total and free stopover permitted. I found if stopover in HKG, fare did not increase, if Stopover both SIN and HKG, fare increase by $200.
Another routing possible,
KUL-SIN,
SIN-SYD,
SYD-SAN/LAX/SEA/SFO
You can have stopover in SIN and SYD for total 1600 USD, without stopover, the fare is $200 cheaper. Please note you should select the SYD-SAN/LAX/SEA/SFO leg with connecting in Vancouver rather than AKL, because AC has no traffic right to sell you a ticket Between NZ-US(even it’s operate by Air New Zealand) without touching Canada. Ticket can not be on AC 9507.
Update: More routing possible from KUL- US west coast via SIN and PVG, KIX, ICN, NRT with stopover permitted. Aslo it valid to US east coast with few hundred more.
