This is the podcast giving the voice of the traveler, it’s more about the journey than the destination.

Podcast #9 - Wrapping Up the Vacation

July 27th, 2005

Finishing my vacation with a podcast from the bathroom of the Budapest (Hungary) Marriott, high above the Danube. The second vacation podcast focuses on differences between business and leisure travel — how to “downshift” from business to leisure travel, balancing cost with risk when chosing a travel brand, and a Budapest traffic accident illustrates what business travelers take for granted. Also, listener comments from podcast #8, and music/sounds from Budapest street festivals. Here’s a direct link to the podcast file.

Here are the show notes from TravelCommons podcast #9:

  • Intro music — Warmth by Makkina
  • Recorded in the bathroom of Budapest Marriott
  • Finishing up a 2½-week vacation in Europe
  • The transition music in this podcast are iRiver recordings of Budapest street festival sounds
  • Listener comments about podcast #8
  • What does it take to “downshift” from the efficient cadence of a business traveler; how to enjoy the act of traveling?
  • Following up on the Comfort in brands topic from podcast #8
  • Two great experiences with non-brands — the Hotel Altiport in Méribel, France, and Fox Auto-Rent in Budapest
  • Discount airlines taking over Budapest airport
  • A traffic accident points out some of the things that business travelers take for granted

Just wanted to drop a note and say I really enjoy your podcast! I work for one the large chain hotels and I love hearing the viewpoint of a roadwarrior like youself. Gives me another great perspective on what a guest mindset is and some intersting trends.

One of my favorite podcasts. First time I’ve made it to your site so I’m still sort of looking around. I’m something of a traveler myself, but not near as much as you. Just wanted to say, keep up the good work. I’m off to vote for you at podcastalley.
