Returning from a quick trip to Austin, TX, this week’s podcast talks about the 15-part Airworld series in AdAge, the behind-the-scenes view of why every airport looks the same. A recent business trip to Detroit breaks through the state tourism propaganda and gets into the city’s true nature. Ignoring WC Fields’ advice, my kids make an appearance, giving their views of my travels. Here’s a direct link to the podcast file.
Here are the show notes from TravelCommons podcast #17:
Thanks for the pointer. I’ll bet that the chopped beef sandwich at the original Salt Lick is better than what I had at the airport.
The second link was also very interesting. It says that Delaware North operates “300 restaurants and retail outlets serving more than 300 million customers a year in more than 30 airports across the U.S. including and Oakland International (OAK), Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International (FLL), Nashville (BNA), Newark International (EWR), and Phoenix Skyharbor (PHX).” Host Marriott says they serve over 70 airports, while Delaware North serves 30 airports. Seems that the two of these would have control over the stomachs of over 80% of the US flyers.
Dear Mark,
This is Udayan and no worries, you pronounced my name well! Thanks for mentioning me. I really enjoy the podcast, and I have done a fair bit of travelling in my life, I moved from Singapore when I was 10 to London and now do a podcast called Life in London, it can be found in iTunes. Really enjoy TravelCommons, one of my favourite, alongside DSC, Diggnation and Squadcast - my top 4 in fact!
Thank you for your great podcast.
Mine is 10 minutes, 1/2 or more of which is Podsafe Music or from MashupTown.com
