Imagine competing for a fabulous grand prize by earning points through fun, quirky and interactive challenges while exploring a variety of Europe’s fascinating places and cultures.
That’s Competitours.
While COMPETITOURS has the same team travel competition theme as the TV show ‘The Amazing Raceā¢,’ the similarities end there.
COMPETITOURS is open to ANY team of two that applies. Intergenerational (parents/kids, grandparents/grandkids), college buddies, empty nesters; every team pairing will be competitive because this travel game offers a level playing field. Challenges provide genuine but unusual and unexpected encounters with local people and places.
In this blog, teams competing in the first ever Competitours tour will post about their experiences, the competition, the ups, and the downs as they compete to become the first Grand Prize winners.
Let the game begin!

Hello all! Thank you for your support, W & T, S & P, Frank and whoever else checked in on us. We (Ally and Bob) had a lot of fun, made new friends and got SMOKED in the competition! The first three days were grueling hitting Frankford, Kolblenz, and Amsterdam. We really enjoyed the last three days (in Brussels, Brugge and Paris) after the “game moderator”, Steve, ended the original competition early to start a new game with different rules. The new rules puts more emphasis on creativity and spending more time enjoying the “target attractions” rather than efficiency and speed in “knocking off” the sites and challenge assignments. (Of course, ending the requirement to upload videos with unreliable and slow internet connections was key!). We were so tired by the end of Day One that generating creative and witty videos was overwhelmed by exhaustion! We think that the new format will be much more fun! (Steve, ask us for more detail.)
Would we do it again? Maybe/probably … with the revised format the chances are more likely that we would do this trip again rather than some other trip. The motivation for us to do it again not to win the first place prize (although that would be just fine!); rather, the prize is the experience of the trip (the journey not the destination). We have really enjoyed meeting our fellow competitours with whom we share a trait in common: a craving to experience new adventure. In particular, we have made new friends with one team with whom we have a whole lot in common and hope to have a lasting friendship. In the very least we have made new friends with whom we hope to intersect again in our travels.
To our friends in Dallas: we return late Sunday night. We will be at the lake house in the hot tub!
