Kevin of Team Extreme and I teamed up for the second part of Competitours. In Paris our last night, were asked by fellow Competitourists – what was the most memorable adventure we had. Kevin and I had some fantastic adventures, but this one is a keeper for both of us – and we got it on video.

Savvy travelers Kevin and Elizabeth end up beyond the end-of-the-line, when so engrossed in our plotting on how to get to Antwerp for the XYZ challenge (yes, the XYZ challenge was actually in Namur, doh,) we missed the last stop for the transfer to the Atomium and ended up stuck in a train yard tunnel. The Atomium was a challenge we were doing just for fun because we wanted to see it since it had recently been restored. Despite missed transfers, Atomuum was worth the views, but then quickly back to the midi station in Brussels to catch the train to Antwerp – good thing we ran in to Hugos in the Atomium station, who told us XYZ was in Namur, not outside Antwerp. LOL; yep, we be savvy travelers. Listen until the end…

One of the challenges in Amsterdam was to go “shopping” in the red-light district. The task involved approaching three different ladies and comparing their prices for various “services.” Being female (and straight), this seemed like a rather fun task.

I passed by many of the scantily clad women in the window and finally decided to approach one. She opened the door and smiled. I asked if she spoke English and then how much it would cost for her to, um, spend some time with me. She then shut the glass door.

Maybe she really didn’t speak English, I thought, so I tried again behind door number 2, a cute blonde in a teddy-kind-of-thing. I asked the same questions and once again, the door was quickly shut when I asked about the price.

The third time this happened I figured maybe I was doing something wrong. Perhaps I didn’t know the proper etiquette for approaching a prostitute. Was I being rude to discuss money so quickly? Should I get to know her a bit first?

Puzzled, I decided to ask the man working at the sex show shop what I was doing wrong. He said it was fine to ask the price right away and that then there can be a bit of negotiation. I then explained I wasn’t get any prices at all. Then he realized the problem… the “ladies” generally won’t take female customers.

Kind of an ego blow when you find you can’t even buy a “date”.

Steve did not tell us this wasgoing to be work! We arrived at the hotel about noon, had to research our tasks, were out by 2 p.m., back around 8 and now it is 11:30 p.m. and several of us are sitting at an Internet cafe still working (and they close in 30 minutes!) …with lots of empty beverage containers at our work stations! The great part is our competitors are all really cool and we are having fun with them. We wish we could remember everywhere we were today, but, well, we cannot. That may have something to do with the empty beverage containers…

A really cool thing … Thelma and Louise are loyal United flyers and so are not used to good service or even little luxuries. Well, we flew Continental and golly be, had power outlets at our seats! You can not imagine how excited we were. We could straighten our hair at our seats, curl our hair, use a blender to make margaritas, and , well, let us just say our imaginations went a little wild. We asked the flight attendants about our ideas and if anyone had tried them and they said we were the first they knew of to think of these things. We think Continental is missing an opportunity here …they need to market those plugs and all the opportunities they present to women flyers!

But in case anyone has a doubt as to who is blond and who is blonder, let me tell you Elizabeth has got our packing down to micro-lite, ready-for-anything, your-Batman-utility-belt-has-nothing-on-us science. Not only has Elizabeth got us packing just one nail file between us to save weight and space, but we are cutting that nail file in half! (And that last part …my idea … see, Elizabeth’s blonder.)

Sheri is traipsing in the jungles of the Yucatan and hasn’t been heard from in days. I’m just back from a weekend in Germany and am only slightly frantic trying to pack and get my taxes done!

About 8 years ago, I posted on FlyerTalk to do my first mileage run and to see if anyone wanted to come along. Sheri wisely pointed out that there is no sales tax in New Hampshire. A weekend of early holiday shopping was in order. We met at the airport. We’ve managed to travel and find our share of mischief ever since. I would say Sheri has found more mischief, she would say it was I, but she’s somewhere in the jungles of the Yucatan, evading captors – again, and can’t weigh-in on the subject!

I’m fairly sure I will see her dashing through CLEAR about 15 minutes before our flight Sunday morning.
