Every 2 weeks we’d like to show off the technology in the carry-on of one of our readers. Show us what you travel with, and have us see if we can improve the way you work and play when on the road.
We are looking for people who have stuff that "usually just works" but know they can do better. If you often run out of power on a flight, can’t get a signal when you travel, or are still using dial-up in the local motel6 then drop us a line. We’d love to hear from you, and give you a complete makeover.
And before you ask us… No. We won’t be supplying the actual products, we’ll just tell you what could make your life easier, where to get it, and how much this is going to cost (or save) you.

One of the greatest hits of 2007 was undoubtedly the Asus EEE PC. This $349/$399/$499 ultra portable notebook has been such a success that it has been increasingly hard to get a hold of one. Think of this computer as the Nintendo Wii of notebooks.
Today the first colored versions of the machine popped up on Newegg, in stock and ready to ship (though you’ll have to be fast to get your loved one a pink EEE on time for Christmas)
Later today: The EEE touchscreen “hack”.

2007 has been a fun year for roadwarriors. In January Steve Jobs introduced us to the iPhone, HTC gave us at least 15 new smart phones and Vista made it onto consumers PC’s (OK, that last one is a joke).
2008 promises to be even better. Here are the 10 gadgets or technologies that we can’t wait to get our hands on in the new year.
In no particular order…
1) The Sling Media Slingcatcher

Sling the other way. When Sling Media gave us the Sling player it was the best thing we travelers had seen since complimentary upgrades. It spelled the end of watching reruns on a 14″ wood grain TV with a poorly working remote (Lodgenet anyone?). But it also meant we had to watch TV on our laptop. The Slingcatcher should change that. Slingcatcher “catches” what your Slingbox “slings”. This means you can watch your Slingbox on a normal TV. In addition to that, it will also let you stream a huge number of different video files AND watch content hooked up to it on a hard disk or USB drive. Of course, none of this matters on the road if your hotel TV does not let you plug anything into it…
When: Expect an announcement at CES in January (around $249)
Why: Keeping up with Family Guy the news when on the road.

Hello all…
I’d like to dedicate this first post to all of you that took the time to stop in and check out what this new blog is all about. TravelTechTalk is part of the Boardingarea site. TravelTechTalk is exactly what the name says; we’ll talk about travel and the technology we use while on the road. We’ll cover a pretty wide range of products, from luggage recommendations to the newest portable video player. If it can make a trip easier, more enjoyable or more productive, you’ll read about it here.
The last part of the site name is the most important; talk. Talking is a two way street, so an integral part of the site is listening to what you have to say as well. Comment on our articles, praise, whether you disagree, if you feel we messed up, or if you have something you’d like to ask us. It could be a simple question about how to power a laptop on a certain flight, or wanting to tell us about a great new product you have discovered (or developed).
A little about myself… I’m Scott Carmichael, I’m a recovering gadget addict based out of the Midwest. I’ve lived in 4 countries, speak 3 languages fluently, have over a million miles of stamps in my passport and I once flew Concorde to New York just to get my hands on an XBox even though I am quite useless at computer games. My weak spots (besides my wife and daughter) are cell phones, ultra portable gadgets and anything that had a cord and more than 2 buttons.
In the coming weeks I will introduce you to some of my fellow writers. People just as crazy as I am, but with the same passion for travel technology, and a burning desire to share their knowledge with you.
