We already reported on the "something in the air" banners hanging in the Moscone center in preparation for the Macworld keynote tomorrow. The first speculation/rumor/wild guess was for WiMax integrated in all Apple portables.

The rumor has now shifted to "air" referring to the "Macbook Air". The rumor of an ultra portable Mac is a persistent one It has popped up every single Macworld of the past 4 or 5 years so I’ll give it a 25% chance of actually happening.

If it does happen, then it’s going to be big. Especially for those of us that travel, the prospect of an Apple designed ultra portable is quite exciting. It could be the beginning of a whole new relationship…

For me, the most exciting part is that these machines might run off SSD (Solid State Drives) instead of regular (rotating disc) hard drives. SSD drive are faster and use much less energy. If they are to make a really small machine then it may be the only way they can get battery life past one hour.

Usually when Apple adopts a new technology, it means prices of that technology will come down for all of us, and daddy really wants a nice new 32Gb SSD drive for his notebook.

We won’t know a thing till tomorrow, but that doesn’t stop these juicy rumors.
