Ziphone 2.5 was released earlier today, and it works perfectly with the new 1.1.4 firmware. It’s a one step unlock, jailbreak and activate program. It’ll even put installer.app on your phone…

We’ve seen them before. The M300, the M500, and so many others. The idea of putting a phone in a watch has enthralled us since the days of Dick Tracy and his wrist communicator. Yet, this is looking to be the first time a watch phone might actually be compelling.
As the above links show, current mobile watches are ungainly at best and way too thick. If this device isn’t out-sized, it will be the first truly compelling such product to be released.
Kinetic recharge alone will be a major innovation and a huge help in extending talk/standby times. Hopefully it will also allow for size reductions. A review unit is on the way. Stay tuned.

So, you’re so organized that your laptop hard drive is partitioned into three drives, one for the operating system, one for data, one for software. Everything you download is catagorized by content, filetype, date and size. No? Or you may be more towards my end of the spectrum and be abso-flipping-lutely disorganized. Files strewn hither, thither and yon. Multiple copies, multiple revisions, multiple places. Not good. Hard drives for people like me tend to fill up quickly. Trying to see what’s filling up the drive is not easy, much less trying to find a file you dropped… someplace. The solution? WinDirStat. Very fast, very easy to use. Best of all? FREE! Find it here!

Today’s deal of the day is for the Motorola S9 "ROKR" Bluetooth stereo headphones. I purchased a pair of these last year and was quite impressed. They may look a little weird, but audio quality is great, and the have full music controls integrated (you’ll need an ACVRP compatible music player for that).
They should work on anything that supports stereo Bluetooth; most recent Blackberry devices, many Samsung, Nokia and SonyEricsson phones and almost all HTC devices on Windows Mobile 6 and higher. They will not do stereo audio on the iPhone!

Looks like someone at Apple agrees that the current business model of linking iPhone sales to carrier contracts may be bad idea. Last week I posted my thoughts on opening up the iPhone and allowing anyone to buy one.
Speaking at the Goldman Sachs Investment Symposium, Apple chief operating officer Tim Cook stated that the iPhone isn’t beholden to the one-carrier strategy used so far, even if it makes the most sense from a business standpoint.
Cook made the observation when asked why Apple hadn’t seen fit to offer either an unlocked version or multi-carrier offerings from the outset, noting that the particular conditions of the US and the initial launch made it impractical to try and satisfy every carrier and user. For Americans, Apple would have had to release at least two iPhones — one for CDMA networks and one for GSM — potentially making the learning process overly complex for the public.
This model could change over time, he says, but the ultimate plan is to provide the best possible experience early on. The existing tie-in with AT&T gave Apple a large amount of coverage while allowing both companies to be themselves, and a simple experience for first-time users.
"We’re not married to any business model," Cook explained. "What we’re married to is shipping the best phones in the world."
He added that for some areas to get the iPhone, it might be necessary to drop even staple features of most cellphone services. Some areas rarely if ever offer post-pay (subscription) cellphone service, for example, which would require a setup process devoted solely to prepaid options.
It would be a pretty mean thing to do to AT&T since they are in a committed (5 year) relationship, but when you have a product that is in this much demand you can do whatever you want.
Of course, the whole thing could also be in response to the fact that there are almost more hacked and unlocked iPhones than there are carrier locked ones…

The battle of the unlimited plans has a new leader. Sprint announced their "Simply Everything" plan today. $99 a month gets you exactly what the name says; everything. Unlimited minutes, messages, data, GPS, TV and Direct Connect (for Nextel iDen users).
Additional lines can be added, and each line gets a $5 incremental discount.

This afternoon Apple let the 1.1.4 version of the iPhone software arrive on iTunes.
Which is great news for the legitimate iPhone users on AT&T, but since we already know some naughty people are running unlocked/hacked/jailbreaked versions it may be wise to hold off with the update till the smart folks figure out a way to unlock this one.
The last thing you want is to lose all those "cool" applications like "jiggly boobs". Most reports say nothing has changed (on the surface), but at 160Mb there HAS to be something juicy in the update. Time will tell…

It’s here! The Lenovo X300 ultra portable hasn’t generated the foaming at the mouth excitement of the Macbook Air, and it probably won’t get you thumbs up at the local latte joint, but that shouldn’t stop it from becoming a massive success.
A quick reminder of what you get:

Apple REALLY is on a roll this year. Macbook Air, cheaper shuffles, larger capacity iPhone and Touch, AppleTV 2.0 and Time Capsule… And now new Macbooks?
Tomorrow is yet another "top secret" Apple gathering where the announcement will be made, but it seems that Best Buy has beat them to it (or at least part of it), by leaking the news of new Macbooks from their product database.
The machine starts at $1999 and the model number is MB402LL/A. And that is everything they know about it. I’m sure we’ll hear more tomorrow. I can’t wait.
