With what is possibly the longest delay *ever* for an HTC device; the Shift is finally showing up in (online) stores.
The Boy Genius Report has a brief review of the device, and while there are some positive aspects, the device just doesn’t look that impressive any longer. When it was first announced early last year, it had me dying to get my hands on one. But the specifications haven’t changed much since that announcement, so it’s still stuck with just 1Gb of memory and a slow 800MHz Intel chip (the same one found in many other UMPC’s).
The addition of 3G to it makes it handier than some devices, but adding 3G to a UMPC isn’t hard (even the EEE PC can be equipped with 3G). And even though it has 3G, there is no phone portion included with it.
All in all it’s great to see the Shift finally made it to reality, but I can’t help feel it’s too little, too late. Every major PC maker is scrambling to make something that’ll take on the EEE PC, so I fully expect we’ll see something that’ll beat the HTC Shift later this year.
