It was a slow news weekend, so I can’t blame the 100’s of fellow bloggers who reported about the upcoming launch of the new AT&T mobile TV service. But what surprises me is the enthusiasm it was presented with.

I have several phones here with some form of mobile TV, and I don’t recall ever using it for any length of time.

These mobile TV services only pop up on regular phones, not the nice smartphones with the kind of screen it would be worth watching TV on. Who enjoys watching TV on a 1" screen anyway?

I fully understand that it’s "cool" to send out press releases announcing that you’ll be offering live TV on select handsets. But on all my trips I’ve yet to run into anyone that actually sat down and watched some TV on their phone.

At $15 a month it’s hardly a bargain either. You’d be better off with a decent smartphone and a Slingbox; that way you get to watch anything you want and if you have a DVR at home, you can skip the silly commercials. The only thing worse than commercials on TV, is commercials on your phone.
