Nope, I’m not referring to using a wireless router on your cable Internet connection. Comcast apparently feel they haven’t conquered enough of the communications market, so they are working behind the scenes on a new mobile phone division.
They have even hired the former CTO of one of the largest European mobile operators (Telefonica O2) to help them accomplish their dream of total world domination.
There are even some rumors that they’ll just gobble up one of the big US mobile operators (**cough Sprint cough**. It isn’t like they haven’t tried to purchase something massive before, just a few years ago they woke up one morning and tried to buy Disney.

1Interesting to see this considering that the other big story about Comcast and Sprint today is that they (along with Cox) are pulling out of Pivot, a joint venture with Sprint to sell wireless services in a bundle with cable and high speed Internet access (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080424/tc_nm/comcast_sprint_dc_2). I guess starting one from scratch is one way to address the hole in their offering, though spectrum license scarcity would be an interesting issue for them to overcome.
