Several days ago I posted a comparison between my Blackberry and WindowsMobile. In the review I mentioned that one of the weakest parts of the Blackberry was the media player. It only took 2 days, but I’ve found a new MP3 player for my Blackberry that looks very promising.

It’s called FlipSide, and gives you a more visual approach to viewing your music (one might even say it makes it look like an iPhone).

All your music is lined up in a "ribbon", and you can use the Blackberry trackball to scroll through the songs. Scrolling is remarkably fast, with little to no delay.

The menu offers all the basic features you’d expect; play, next, previous and shuffle options.

If you come across missing album art, you simply press the menu button and select "find album art". Within seconds the album art will be downloaded and added to the song file!

If your entire music collection is a little too much for you, then you can select any song and add it to a basic playlist. There are no other options for playlists, but it is certainly sufficient for making a basic selection of your music.

And finally; the FlipSide Extras feature shows some more information about the artist. The information comes from Last.FM and Wikipedia.

FlipSide is a huge improvement over the basic media player, it looks great and makes browsing your music collection much easier. There are some limitations though; I couldn’t find any options to select the output device (headphones/ speaker/Bluetooth), and it doesn’t seem to support Bluetooth remote control.

FlipSide costs $19.95 and is available from Electric Pocket. A Windows Mobile version is available from the same site.
