This is MiuTunes. It’s a Blackberry music player, and it is (so far) the coolest music player I’ve come across for my device.

It has a very slick interface that lets you browse your library by artist, album, song, genre and year. Plus it has a "coverflow" browser like on the most current iPods.

The only downside I could find is that it wasn’t easy to transfer the audio to my Bluetooth stereo headphone, and that the makers want $30 for it.

There has been a lot of good quality Blackberry software developed lately, but sadly most of it seems to be in this price range, which is a shame as it really limits the amount of software I’m willing to purchase.

I’ve included some more photos after the jump for your reading entertainment.

You can learn more about MiuTunes here, where you’ll also find a (7 day) trial version.

When Apple introduced the new generation iPod’s, they crippled the video output system that had been in use since the first video capable player. In the past you simply plugged a $5 cable into the headphone jack, and could plug your iPod into a video source.

Then Apple removed that option, and made things worse by adding a special "authentication chip" in theirĀ  video cable that would prevent any old cables from working with the new devices.

When Apple introduced the iPod Classic, the iPhone, the iPod Touch and the new generation iPod Nano, every existing video accessory stopped working.

And of course, until recently this "authentication chip" was only available in the original ($50) Apple cable.

The new Dealextreme Premium Plated AV Cable for iPhone and New iPods shaves more than $30 off the price of the Apple cable, and ships from Hong Kong for just $18.31.

Thanks to these creative Chinese manufacturers, it’s now even cheaper to plug your iPod/iPhone into the hotel TV and watch some decent stuff!

Update: Delextreme have updated the page and have removed the iPhone compatability from the list.

Here is a nifty service, courtesy of Zinio. Apple iPhone users can browse full versions of 20 different magazines for free. Titles include Macworld, Lonely Planet, Popular Photography, Playboy and Penthouse.

But here is what makes it cooler; if you trick your browser into thinking it’s an iPhone, you can actually read these magazines for free on your desktop/laptop (PC or Mac).

You’ll need to change the "user agent" on your browser, which is easy to do in Safari or Firefox. In Safari just follow these instructions, and on Firefox you can add this extension and add the following iPhone user agent:

Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419 (United States)

After that, simply point your desktop browser to this link and enjoy these free quality publications. If you are really smart, you can even download them locally to your computer to read on the flight.

Raise your hands if you have ever taken a business trip with your carry on, your laptop bag AND a video projector. In this day and age of snazzy Powerpoint presentations, the humble video projector has become an invaluable tool. Sadly not everywhere you travel has their own projector, so you’ll often find yourself carrying an extra 20lbs of stuff.

That is where Projector123.com can help you. They ship projectors anywhere in the US and can get them delivered as early as 8:30 am the next morning.

IMG_1362The best way to see if they can keep their promise is to try them out, so I put in an order for their 2000 lumen projector for a 10:30am delivery.

10 am the next morning, my FedEx guy showed up with what looked like the kind of plastic case you see in gangster movies, though this one wasn’t handcuffed to him. The projector ships with signature confirmation, so someone will have to be present to sign for it.

I’m a sucker for convergence devices (and anything with lots of buttons and lights).

Any company that makes a product that combines several devices in one, has my attention. So, when I got the chance to review the Sony mylo personal communicator, I was naturally excited (yeah, I’m a geek…).

The Sony mylo COM-2 is a 6.9oz (196 gram) "personal communicator". The specifications are:

  • High resolution 3.5" 800×480 touch screen display
  • 802.11B/G Wi-Fi
  • 1Gb built in memory, expandable with Memory Stick Duo cards
  • Slide out backlit full QWERTY keyboard
  • 1 year free Wi-Fi access at Wayport McDonalds locations
  • 1.3MP camera with macro mode

The mylo (which stands for "MY Life Online" runs a proprietary Sony OS with support for Adobe Flash widgets. The default software package includes the following applications:

  • Instant Messaging support for AIM, Yahoo! and Google Talk
  • Skype
  • RSS and Podcast player
  • Web browser with flash support
  • Music, video and photo player
  • Games
  • Camera application
  • Flash Widgets (Facebook, Youtube, Google and Shoutcast are pre-installed)

Later in this review I’ll show off each of these applications, but let’s take a look at the mylo hardware first:

In the neverending battle to provide the most innovative services for premium class passengers, Singapore Airlines have announced that some of their aircraft now feature iPod connectivity.

seatback

Passengers in business class on the A340-500 flights from Newark to Singapore (and LA to Singapore from August) will be able to plug their iPod or iPhone into the IFE and watch their content on the Krisflyer system (a 15" screen).

Personally I’m a little torn on this; it’s great that you can now bring your own video content with you, and watch it on something larger than a 2.5" screen, but it would have been nicer if they just gave everyone the option of iPod or a regular video connection (for a DVD player or other MP3 player brand). There are still some people that don’t have an iPod (I’m talking to you, Zune owners!)

And of course, the poor folks in cattle class will still be stuck with their tiny iPod screens…

Capture [640x480]

I’m pretty sure that there are now officially more iPod cases on the market than there are residents of Portugal. So it takes something quite special to catch my attention.

Today I’m going to show you the iFrogz audiowrapz case - it’s that "something quite special".

The audiowrapz case is a silcone wrap case for the 3rd generation iPod Nano. Unlike most silicone cases, this one has been treated with a special anti-dust protection, and it clearly shows, as even after a few days the case still looks nice and clean.

But what makes the audiowrapz case special, is the integrated speakers. These are passive speakers, so you don’t need extra batteries, and they don’t draw any power from your iPod.

If you have an iPhone that has been "jailbroken" (the ability to install your own applications on it), then you may want to try Orb.

Orb is an application I haven’t been paying enough attention to here on the site, but it’s certainly worth checking out.

By installing the Orb application on your desktop and your iPhone, you’ll be able to access all the media content (audio, video and photos) stored on your PC, and if you have a compatible tuner, you’ll even be able to watch live TV. All on your iPhone…

Best of all? It’s free of charge.

Well whattayaknow… It really does work as promised. Imagine being able to access your entire iTunes library, right on your Blackberry, without having to actually move any of your music files onto the device!

bbscreen[1]

The first step is sending nuTsie your iTunes .XML library file. That file contains all the information about your files (playlists, album names, ratings etc…).

Once you have sent them your library file, you can install the nuTsie client on your device, and you’ll have immediate access to all your playlists and songs. When I first read about it I simply didn’t believe it could be this easy. But they delivered on their promise, and after a couple of minutes I was listening to my own "top rated" playlist.
