Nokia just announced 2 new smartphones in their "E" class of devices. Both phones have run on the Symbian S60 operating system and come equipped with HSDPA 3G, GPS, dual video cameras, MicroSD expansion slots and 110MB of internal memory.

The E71 has a landscape display and a full QWERTY keyboard, the E66 packs a portrait display and a sliding numeric keypad.

No word yet on a US release of these devices.

Perfect timing from Amazon (and AT&T), right before the 3G iPhone launches they are working hard to sell their current stock of smartphones.

There are some amazing deals here, including the tilt for just $80 (after a $100 rebate). Other deals include the Blackberry Curve for -$75 (yes, MINUS $75!) and the Blackjack II for -$49.99.

If the iPhone isn’t your thing, then there is bound to be at least one smartphone that’ll fit your needs.

It’s finally official; the Sprint Instinct (aka the Sprint iPhone killer) will be available on June 20th, a full 21 days before the 3G iPhone arrives.

It’ll cost $199, but only after another customary $100 Sprint mail-in rebate. But to make matters worse, the rumors about the Instinct only being available with the Sprint "everything plan" are indeed true. You will have to pay Sprint a dollar short of 100 bucks a month for the pleasure of using this device.

The Sprint "everything plan" comes with unlimited minutes, data, SprintTV, Sprint Navigation, SMS and MMS messages. If you only need a few hundred minutes a month, then this plan makes no sense.

Which is why in my opinion it’s doomed before it has even been released.

The only bright spot seems to be that Sprint is willing to sell it to anyone, no matter how much they have left on their current contract. They will of course have to signup for a new 2 year plan though… That Blackberry Bold keeps looking more and more appealing to me…

Bored at work/the airport/a hotel? Point your mobile browser to jagamaga.mobi and browse their collection of Creative Commons ringtones. Creative Commons is a rights method where the creator of the content releases it for free, non commercial use. Which means free ringtones for you and me.

There are some pretty decent ones in their lineup (and some horrid ones), but chances are that they’ll all be better than the standard ones you got on your phone, plus you won’t be charged $2 just to download them.

On most phones you should be able to either save the clip, or instantly assign it as a ringtone.

The HP iPaq 900 was announced close to a year ago, but it is finally being shipped to stores and should be available in the next 2 or 3 weeks. It uses the same form factor you’ll find in other popular smartphones like the Blackjack and the Motorola Q, but unlike those devices, the iPaq 900 runs the full version of Windows Mobile and it has a touch screen.

On board is also 3G HSDPA data, a QWERTY keyboard, 240×320 screen, GPS, a 3MP camera, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. All in all, a very impressive package (except for the low-res screen).

Nothing is known about pricing yet, nor whether any US based operators will offer the phone in their lineup.

Windows Mobile isn’t new to Samsung; they already make the highly popular Blackjack and Blackjack II phones. But today (the day of the Apple WWDC), they announced their newest Windows Device - the Samsung Omnia.

This Windows Mobile professional phone has GPS, a 5MP autofocus camera, Wi-Fi, TV-out, FM radio with RDS, Bluetooth, 3G and comes with 8Gb or 16Gb of onboard memory.

The only thing Samsung did wrong (in my opinion), was outfit the phone with a relatively weak 240×400 pixel screen.

There doesn’t seem to be an official “Omnia site”, but PhoneMag have more photos and a video clip online: Samsung Omnia.

Forgive me for the childish post title, by now you should know that I’m more Windows fan than iPhone fan (though that might change next week).

Microsoft’s head of mobile communications posted a letter online this morning that highlights an important sales milestone for the Windows Mobile platform: 20 million licenses in one fiscal year.

It’s now my honor and privilege to announce a milestone that our partnership has accomplished. This fiscal year we will sell nearly 20 million Windows Mobile smartphone licenses, making Windows Mobile one of the most widely used smartphone software platforms in the world. We also sold more in the previous four quarters than RIM, and in the last quarter our year-over-year unit growth alone was greater than sales of Apple’s iPhone.

Congratulations Microsoft. Now get back to work and fix the things I hate in Windows Mobile.

Laptop magazine got their hands on the upcoming Sprint Instinct, and took it for a spin. The initial impressions? Head on over to their site to find out. But I can reveal that it looks quite promising.

Dashboard

It’s almost embarrassing that I waited this long to write about Dashwire since I’ve been using it since last year.

If you use a Windows Mobile device (smartphone or pocketPC) then you’ll really want to take this application for a spin. Imagine having access to all the content on your mobile device, through your desktop (or laptop). Call logs, SMS messages, photos, videos, contacts and even ringtones.

The application was in beta till March, but is now open (and free) to anyone that wants to make their mobile life a little easier. Later next week I’ll post a more comprehensive review and show of the many features of this awesome program, but if you don’t want to wait you can signup here.
