Remember last week? AT&T tried to show how generous they are by handing out free Wi-Fi access to any iPhone user through their hotspot network.
Sadly the freebie has already been turned off. Things may change once they make an official announcement, but in the meantime the only way to get free iPhone hotspot access is at select local airports through Boingo.
Or course, the whole thing could also have been turned off because it only took people a day to discover how they could get free access using their PC or Mac and have their browser pretend to be an iPhone…

Runway Girl is repoorting that Boingo is looking to partner with AirCell, extending their WiFi peering arrangement with one of the major players in the airborne WiFi space. AirCell is currently providing service to American Airlines and Virgin America. Back in the Connexion days, Boingo users were able to roam onto that network, and clearly it is something that their customers would demand so it is nice to see them moving in this direction. Still no word on how much they’ll charge for the roaming, but we can hope that it will be reasonable.

Here is a generous offer that should help many of you when you are at the airport; Boingo is offering 15 minutes of free Wi-Fi access in exchange for a 15 second ad on your iPhone/iPod Touch.
This is great if you need a quick way to pick up your email or need a speedy connection to download something from the iTunes music store. It’ll also save you a fortune on roaming costs when you land in the UK (or US, depending where you are heading).
The participating airports are:
United Kingdom: EDI, GLA, LHR, LGW, SOU, STN
North America: AZO, BNA, BWI, DTW, EWR, HOU, IAH, JFK, LGA, MDW, MEM, MKE,
MSP, OAK, OKC, ORD, SDF, SJU, SLC, STL, YOW, YYZ.
Of course, if you need more than 15 minutes, it may pay to check out the regular Boingo plans which start at just $7.95. With international GSM data costing as much as $2 per megabyte you’ll earn that $7.95 back in under a day.

Surely you didn’t think you’d have an iPhone free day here on TravelTechTalk? The rumor du jour is that iPhone users now get free WiFi access through AT&T WiFi hotspots.
With T-mobile pushed out of all Starbucks locations, that makes for a whopping 71,000 AT&T hotspots.
You are asked to enter your phone number, and hey presto; free WiFi. AT&T hasn’t confirmed (or denied) this yet, so we’ll file this under "rumor" for the moment.
Of course, if you are using an iPhone on something other than AT&T (*cough T-mobile cough*), then you are out of luck, unless they have been lazy and let any AT&T phone number access for free.

It was hardly a secret that Nokia would reveal a WiMax enabled tablet, but somehow I doubt it was meant to actually be shown on their site till next week…
Nevertheless; this is the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet WiMax edition. I’m assuming the specifications are the same as the "normal" N810 (WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, sliding display and keyboard).
All we need now is actual WiMax to use it on…

In the photo I’ve posted you’ll notice 2 things; one is the awesome speed, the second is that it’s running on T-mobile. Getting an iPhone on T-mobile is nothing special, but I need to point out that when I took that photo I was nowhere near a public (or private) Internet hotspot.
I’m running it off my Sprint 3G phone, which is acting as a wireless router allowing my iPhone to access the 3G broadband service.
If you want 3G on your iPhone, read my posts about WMWiFiRouter and the Sprint SERO plan. For $199 (the price of the Sprint phone) and $30 a month you can surf and download at speeds up to 2mbit/s using the EVDO Rev.A on Sprint. Of course, once we finally see a real 3G iPhone this setup won’t be any use to you…
