US Airways succeeds to umimpress me once again

I do not fly US Airways often. United is my primary domestic carrier of choice and living with a United hub as my local airport (IAD), it ends up having the most likely flight available. That is except when I am flying to Charlotte, an airport ‘owned’ by US Airways. I flew there earlier this week. Quick day trip. And I remain unimpressed…

Seats: US Airways must have the smallest pitch of the industry. I am not tall and my knees were touching the seat in front of me. What would …

US Airways – American Airlines Merger – a small first step?

By no way does this mean that a merger is sure to happen, but the unions of bankrupt American Airlines have decided to support a potential merger with US Airways. US Airways’ CEO has been hinting on a possible merger for some time now. The unions are backing this because AA is in trouble. As it went into bankruptcy, they announced 13,000 job cuts! A merger with US Airways could be a path to safety for AA.
US Airways itself came to be in its current form thru a merger. The …

Jetblue angling to get with Oneworld?

Jetblue (B6) and Japan Airlines (JL) reached a codeshare agreement for 21 US destinations from B6’s stronghold cities of New York and Boston. JAL had direct flights from both cities to Tokyo. The codeshare strengthens the interline agreement that they had established in February.

It is interesting to note that none of the 21 destinations are currently served directly by JAL’s Oneworld partner American Airlines (AA). That is not surprising given the strong ties B6 has with AA. Last November, AA announced the ability to each AA miles on select B6 …

BMI goes the OneWorld way

As we had announced earlier on this blog, BMI has been acquired by IAG, the parent company of British Airways and Iberia. As a pert of this acquisition, BMI will no longer be a part of Star Alliance – that membership ends April 19th. It will soon become a part of OneWorld, allowing for redemptions on OneWorld airlines like British, American, Qantas. See full announcement is attached here.
We are all of course, hoping that BMI will adopt the Avios mileage program and allow us to merge our BMI balances with …

@SkySteward – blogger and American Airlines Flight Attendant fired

Sky Steward blogs about American Airlines (AA) mostly. He has been working as an American Airlines Flight Attendant and is pretty well known in the blogosphere and on Twitter for his humorous take on AA. Lately (read: since AA’s bankruptcy) he has been very critical of the company and has made several parody videos. He has also been a ‘whistle blower’, sharing how AA executives and their families are routinely given First Class seats, bumping Elite members. Well, he has just been terminated. AA claims that his termination is due …

The pain of tracking Airline Miles and Hotel Points

Yeah, I know there are websites that will track it for me all in one place – I have accounts with points.com and gomilies.com , but they just don’t seem to be right or enough. … Staying at a hotel (duh, again, but this can become complex if one earns hotel points, airline miles or hotel points AND airline miles) Credit cards eMiles.com eRewards.com MyPoints.com TopGuest Car rentals (for rental rewards or airline miles) Other sundry events, like filling out a survey, earning miles as compensation for a customer service event, etc.

Are you feeling lucky enough to earn 280K AAdvantage miles?

No, this isn’t another Glittergate. It is a photo competition that American Airlines (AA) is sponsoring. The weekly prize is a Nikon D3000 camera. The grand prize is 280K AAdvantage miles. It is pretty easy to enter the competition, just upload a photo and you are done.

Sounds sweet? A short reminder: The D3000 will create a tax burden of ~$500 and the 280K AAdvantage miles will create a tax burden of ~$5500. Assuming ~30% tax, you would be shelling ~$2K for the 280K miles; a good deal if you need …
