Friends are Priceless, for everything else there is Mastercard!

I had blogged earlier about how much I loved my Chase OnePass Plus card for its perpetual double miles promotions and 10K bonus miles for $25K spend in a calendar year. I just got a shock yesterday. Well, that is exaggerating the situation; but why would they advertise a benefit that does not exist? The roadside assistance on Continental OnePass card is a total joke!
To cut the long story short, I woke up yesterday morning to notice that I had forgotten to turn off the lights in my car and …

CapitalOne Venture Card vs. Airline Cards

A reader of our blog, Andy, asked me what I thought about the CapitalOne Venture Card. It is well advertised on TV that it earn two points per dollar charged. My co-blogger, the Nomad rated it as one of the Best ‘other’ rewards Card. Good deal or not? As I started typing my response to Andy’s email, I realized that I was really giving him a comparison between the Venture card and a typical Airline Miles or Hotel Points card. I decided to give Andy my response as a blog …

Reminder: Double miles from ShopOnePass ending on July 19

One of the advantages of having the Continental (CO) OnePass Plus card was the access to the double miles at selected retailers when clicking through ShopOnePass. This led to excellent deals like 50 miles per dollar on floral purchases.

Thanks to the UA/CO merger, this benefit is ending on July 19. So get the deal before it’s too late. There are plenty of good deals to be had. For example, 4 miles/$ at Walmart, Best Buy; 10miles per $ at Kmart/drugstore.com; 2000 miles for Netflix subscription.
The best part is you don’t …

YMMV: Double OnePass Miles on Dining, Retail and Entertainment purchases until Aug 8

Continental OnePass Plus Card is becoming my go-to card for dining purchases. I had blogged earlier about double miles opportunity on dining, gas and grocery purchases until June 13.

I figured out this would be a good time to call up Chase since the older promotion had ended. And I am glad I did. The Chase rep told me that most Chase OnePass cardmembers are getting 2X miles on retail, entertainment purchases from June 8 to Aug 8. No registration is required.

I asked for clarification on what ‘retail’ meant. I was …

Delta: 50% bonus on first time Membership Rewards transfer is back (25K MQM for 100K+ points transfers)

This is why most experts feel, you should never transfer to Delta unless you really need Skymiles. They have been having a perpetual 50% transfer bonus for first time transfers from Membership Rewards (MR) to Skymiles. The last offer just ended on May 31 and the new one is back already for transfers until Sept 30.

The only difference is that unlike last time, the threshold for getting 25K MQM (and hence Silver status on Delta) has been raised from 50K to 100K MR points transfer. Still, a good deal in …

Which credit card to use for car rentals?

Before I delve into the details, let me give you the one line conclusion:
Use the highest grade Visa card you have or if you have the Amex premium protection plan, use your Amex card.

Car rental collision damage waiver is probably the most common way to ‘lure’ card members. All card issuers say they offer collision damage waiver, so you can decline the CDW (collision damage waiver) offered by the car rental companies. Seems like a huge benefit! But you will get scared if you read the fine print of …
