50,000! A few big bonus credit cards

In my opinion, a mega-credit card bonus is something that gives you 100,000 Miles or Points. (Still waiting on my targeted 100,000 MR card, American Express!!). There have been a few off late – the 100,000 Avios British Airways Card earlier this year and the 100,000 point CapitalOne Venture Card last summer. Both offers are gone now. The current best offers are in the 50,000 point range. Here are a few 50,000 Point offers I found out there:

Chossing a Booking Class when buying a ticket

One of my readers Jack asked a question after I posted my post on Earning United Miles on Jet Airways flights. In the article I talked about how I did not pay attention to the booking class I was being booked into on Jet Airways and I earned no United miles, as a result. His question was how does one pick a booking class when using online search engines. The answer is that it depends on the search engine. If you are using a generic search engine like Expedia or …

Merger blues? US Airways Credit Card offer nor for upto 40,000 miles

*** OFFER IS NOW UPTO 40,000 MILES. WAS ORIGINALLY 50,000 ***
Every time there is a merger between airlines, I have personally leveraged the opportunity to make sure I get miles in both airlines’ accounts. When the merger does happen, the miles get combined, raising their value. 40,000 miles each in two separate airlines accounts is much less than 80,000 in one airlines. I did this way back with the NorthWest-Delta merger, then with the Continental-United merger and am going to do for the potential US Airways-American Airlines merger.
I already have …

Frontier, US Airways and Lufthansa – Cards with additional miles for Balance Transfers

I found three new credit cards that not only have a sign-up bonus, but also offer extra miles for transferring you balance. This is a unique opportunity to earn miles for transferring balances to potentially lowers interest rate APRs and earn some miles along the way! Not too many cards offer miles for balance transfers.
I will be the first to point out that none of these are great deals. I am personally not getting any of these cards as I do not have any balance to transfer. Without the transfers, …

US Airways succeeds to unimpress me once again

I do not fly US Airways often. United is my primary domestic carrier of choice and living with a United hub as my local airport (IAD), it ends up having the most likely flight available. That is except when I am flying to Charlotte, an airport ‘owned’ by US Airways. I flew there earlier this week. Quick day trip. And I remain unimpressed…

Seats: US Airways must have the smallest pitch of the industry. I am not tall and my knees were touching the seat in front of me. What would …

Airline news from around the web

I have been traveling. I will post an article on my recent travel soon. I did write some on the flights, but the posts are still in outline form. Got some work to do. In the meanwhile, the world did not stop and things have been going on in the past few days. Here are a few tidbits.
1. Lufthansa shares its seating layout for the 747-8i:
Lufthansa is the first airline to fly the Boeing 747-8i. It will be referred to as the 74H in the 3-character mode of referring to …

US Airways – American Airlines Merger – a small first step?

By no way does this mean that a merger is sure to happen, but the unions of bankrupt American Airlines have decided to support a potential merger with US Airways. US Airways’ CEO has been hinting on a possible merger for some time now. The unions are backing this because AA is in trouble. As it went into bankruptcy, they announced 13,000 job cuts! A merger with US Airways could be a path to safety for AA.
US Airways itself came to be in its current form thru a merger. The …

Yes! United now gives 500 mile minimum on US Airways flights

I have to fly US Airways every once in a while. Going in and out of Charlotte (CLT), which I do every so often, forces one to do so. One of my peeves with US Airways (amongst several others), is that when earning miles on United, I would not earn a 500 minimum miles. Dulles (IAD) to Charlotte is 321 miles. United stopped giving the 500 minimum to even it’s Elites a few years ago and only awards the actual miles earned. Continental, on the other hand always gave the …

The pain of tracking Airline Miles and Hotel Points

Yeah, I know there are websites that will track it for me all in one place – I have accounts with points.com and gomilies.com , but they just don’t seem to be right or enough. … Staying at a hotel (duh, again, but this can become complex if one earns hotel points, airline miles or hotel points AND airline miles) Credit cards eMiles.com eRewards.com MyPoints.com TopGuest Car rentals (for rental rewards or airline miles) Other sundry events, like filling out a survey, earning miles as compensation for a customer service event, etc.

US Airways Airline Miles Gift Registry

US Airways, not typically known for being ahead of the rest, has come up with a unique and admittedly cute way to increase mileage sales and help people reach mileage goals – they have created a Mileage Gift Registry!
Here is how it works – someone expecting a gift (newly weds wanting miles to go on a honeymoon, college student raising miles for Spring Break, retirees looking for that dream trip…) sets up a gift registry. They set a goal of how many total or additional miles they need. They then …
