The Budget Rental Car 5,000 mile Delta bonus has gone bad.

Frugal Travel Guy writes that the terms and conditions of the offer have been changed after the fact. There was originally no limit to the number of times you could earn the bonus, now they’re limiting each person to (3) 5000-mile bonuses.

For folks who have already rented more than three times in the promo period, with the express purpose of earning the 5000 Delta Skymiles, this is a huge deal.

Hopefully Budget will do an about face here and do the right thing —

  • At the very least, post the bonus miles for folks who have already rented and have receipts which say they’re earning their 5000 miles for the rental
  • But what about folks who read about the bonus, saw that it runs through March 31, and have reserved future rentals based on this? Unless they send emails out to everyone with a current rental opting to earn Delta miles notifying them of the change and giving them an opportunity to book elsewhere, they would seem to have an obligation to come through on their promise. A customer can’t reasonably be expected to check for changes to terms and conditions after making a reservation.

in the past when travel companies have back tracked on good deals, flyertalkers have come out strong by contacting the media and generally raising hell. i hope this happens with the budget deal. while there has been disappointment on flyertalk, it doesn’t seem like there has been the normal amount of “hell raising” that i’ve seen from flyertalkers in the past.

One of my readers reports getting the full number of miles promised, larger than 3,000.
