Up to 52,500 Bonus Miles for New Hilton American Express Card

A colleague received an email offer for a Hilton American Express yesterday, and asked if it was a good deal. I’ve written about it before, but since I told her ‘yes, it is’ I thought I’d pass it on again.

  • 10,000 bonus points at first purchase.
  • 2,500 bonus points for each of your first four Hilton stays charged to the card. (I haven’t tested this, but since I assume that American Express triggers the bonus rather than Hilton I imagine any Hilton charge, even a Coke in a restaurant, would work… That’s at least how a similar bonus used to work with the Starwood American Express.)
  • 30,000 bonus points for spending $1,500 on the card within 3 months of approval.
  • 2,500 bonus points for adding a free additional cardholder to the account (you don’t even have to give them the card…).

The Hilton American Express card itself, bonuses aside, is pretty good. No annual fee and 2/3rds more points for spending at grocery stores, drugstores, gas stations, restaurants (in the US only), the post office, and with cell phone carriers.

I have the card but don’t use the card as much as I probably should, only on those purchases with spending bonuses that is. I still tend to use my Starwood American Express, and certain Citibank Thank You Network-linked cards have specific advantages on certain kinds of spend that win me over.

Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that $20,000 in spending on the card in a year earns Gold status in the Hilton Hhonors program — enough for the occasional upgrade and lounge access or breakfast.

Your link “for a Hilton American Express” offer does not have anything about the 30,000 bonus points for spending $1,500 on the card within 3 months of approval. However, the link “I’ve written about it before” does have such a 30,000 point bonus listed.

  2. Harvey Mechanic Says:

My wife signed up for a similar 30,000 point bonus offer a few months ago and spent the $1500 minimum and has already been credited by Hilton with the bonus points as promised.

I believe the requirement for HH Gold is $20,000 in eligible purchases on the Amex HH card.

  4. Gary Says:

Link fixed, $20k threshold for gold status is corrected and that’s been changed in the text. Thanks all.

Also, simply having the card you get Silver status in HHonors even if you don’t use the card at all. That’s enough for access to elite-only rewards; i.e., GLON multi-night awards.

Your headline says 52,500 miles. Don’t you mean 52,500 points? I bleieve that these would convert to a much lower number of airline miles.

  8. Scott Says:

I was surprised to read “and certain Citibank Thank You Network-linked cards have specific advantages on certain kinds of spend that win me over” from Gary. Now that is a surprise for me as I dont recall Gary ever having any favourable opinion about Thank you Network. It would be really interesting to hear from you about this program

    Gary -

When was this iffer released? I just signed up for my HH Amex less than 60 days ago…matter of fact, I just got my 2nd-ever statement posting yesterday. Any odds that they’ll give me a chance at this offer since I’m well over the $1,500 required?
