Thanks Gary, this is an excellent write up of all the options. However can you offer any suggestions for someone in Australia? I am an SPG Plat and I bank miles with UA. So I dont want a QF affiliated card :). Thanks.

[...] You can transfer to most frequent flyer programs at a 1:1 ratio, and then they give you 5000 bonus miles for each 20,000 increment that you transfer. That means if you’re transferring points to an airline program where the ratio is 1:1, you’re really earning 1.25 miles per dollar spent instead of just 1 mile per dollar like most cards. There are even a couple of programs, such as LAN’s, where the ratio is 1:2 — 20,000 Starwood points convert to 50,000 kilometers in that program (because the bonus is doubled as well). More info (Vew from the wing).
Hey Gary, any idea if that aplication for the Priority Club VISA with the 45,000 plus 15,000 bonus point offer you provided a link for will still work?
About ready to go for it but just wanted to see if there have been any recent feedback on that.
Thanks

Gary, any further thoughts? A lot has changed in the past 5 months, including the Chase BA card; the Continental card for 46K points in combined promos; CO's entry to *A with a decent award chart; and an attractive Amex Membership Rwds offer.

As we approach the end of 2009, and point/miles addicts try to line themselves up for maximum benefit from their 2010 spending, I'm sure you have more to say beyond what you've written about the newest offers individually.

@Mike

A little late but I think you meant a free night instead of "companion certificate" for the Marriott Visa Signature. That card includes a free category 1-4 night (expires in 6 months unfortunately) on signup and with the annual fee each year.

I recently went to cancel the most recent Citi AA card I've churned, its the Platinum level mastercard, and they offered me 2x miles/dollar for up to 10K miles ($5 spend). This beats out starwood and several others for AA miles at least on a small level.

Gary,

rdy is correct. The bottom of my billing statement says "To qualify for Starwood Gold Preferred
Guest Status, you need to have $30,000 in qualified spend by December 31st."
