That’s a nice haul from a single credit card applicaiton. And Continental miles are worth a whole lot more than they used to be, with the airline joining Star Alliance in just over a week.

The credit card offer itself is for 40,000 miles broken out as follows:

  • 25,000 bonus miles after first purchase
  • 5,000 bonus miles for adding an additional authorized user within two months of account opening
  • 10,000 bonus miles for spending $1,000 on the card by Nov. 30, 2009That’s 40,000 for $1,000 in spend by the end of next month and adding a cardholder. Plus the regular points for the $1,000 in spend and you’re at 41,000.

    And as long as you register for the Mileathon promotion before applying for the card (and before November 30) you’ll get an additional 5000 miles, for a total of 46,000.

    Chase-issed cards aren’t churnable these days, so it’s available to first-time Chase Continental Mastercard holders only. But a pretty good offer to sign up, the best I’ve seen, and well worth the $85 annual fee for the card.

      i applied and was approved for the world mc and then my wife applied and was approved for the continental platinum mc. i can’t seem to find any info on a continental chase platinum mc… anyone know about it?

      Do you have to know someone’s SSN to add them as an authorized user?

      The Mileathon page you link to has no explanation of how many credits each activity earns and how credits translate into miles. Do you how this works, or where this is explained? Basically, how did you get “open credit card” = 5000 miles? Thanks!

      Alex, click on the gray tab labeled “Credit-Earning Activities.”

      “Acquire a Continental Airlines Credit Card from Chase” = 30 credits = 5K miles.

      Not churnable, perhaps, but I have a United-Chase Visa and was just approved for a Continental-Chase MC.

      Note that it automatically updated my Continental profile to prefer this card. I had to manually change it back to the corporate Amex.

      I received a postcard flyer on this Monday. Same deal, except mine is worse, in that they want to give me only 5000 points for spending $1000 by Nov 30….not 10,000 points like your mention.
