Through April 30, Aeroplan is offering up to 5000 bonus miles for converting hotel points into their currency.
- Convert hotel points to 5000 miles and earn 1000 bonus miles.
- Convert hotel points to 10,000 miles and earn 2000 bonus miles.
- Convert hotel points to 25,000 miles and earn 5000 bonus miles.
Participating partner hotel programs include Best Western Rewads, Goldpoints Plus, Choice Privileges, Coast Rewards, Hilton HHonors, Hyatt Gold Passport, Priority Club, Marriott Rewards, Starwood, and Wyndham Rewards. The bonus can be earned once per hotel program that you convert points from. Registration required.
With Starwood, for example, 20,000 Starpoints normally becomes 25,000 Aeroplan miles but with this bonus you’ll receive 30,000 Aeroplan miles. Unfortunately you can only convert once from Starwood for the bonus, and most other programs are less generous with their mileage transfers. Now could be a good time to be redeeming a Marriott travel package, however, or to convert from Wyndham Rewards. (Me, I’d probably save those Wyndham points to use with the Fortune Wings club and upgrade on Hainan Airlines from Seattle to China, but I’m just weird that way.)
Even with this bonus of 5,000 miles, is it worthwhile to spend Starpoints for Aeroplan miles given APs hefty surcharges and fees?
@JA Aeroplan only adds fuel surcharges to Air Canada flights. Redeem on Star Alliance partners, no fuel surcharges.
Gary: If I currently have 0 Aeroplan points but can see myself redeeming with them sometime in the next several years, is it worth moving 20k SPG points into 30k Aeroplan points to keep until I move more when I am eventually ready to redeem?
@Carberrie depends on how far out ‘next several years’ is. Aeroplan miles expire after 7 years regardless of activity.
