Possible United/Continental Second Quarter Promotion? Each Roundtrip Earns Bonuses, up to 20,000 Bonus Miles for Three Roundtrips

Update: This does turn out to be targeted, I haven’t heard of any 1Ks that were able to register, perhaps some less-engaged Premier Executives have gotten an alternate offer as noted in the comments. I do like, at least, that folks are getting an error when they aren’t eligible — in the past United promotions would make it appear as though you had registered, you just don’t get the credit. And once you do register, of course, you can now check your pomotions page to see what you’re actually successfully registered for.

A reader just forwarded me and email, which doesn’t mention this offer as targeted. The terms and conditions of the offer do say that it’s valid only for recipients of the mailing. But it’s a fairly detailed termss and conditions page, not just an offer registration page which is what I usually see with United’s targeted offers. So perhaps they’re just in the process of rolling this out broadly. Until we learn more, this remains in the your mileage may vary category. But it will be interesting to see if this offer is indeed being made broadly.

The details are that United Mileage Plus is offering bonus miles foe each of your first three roundtrips in the second quarter of the year which are taken on either United or Continental.

For tickets purchased and travel completed between April 1 and June 30, United is offering 2500 bonus miles for one roundtrip, 10,000 miles if you complete two roundtrips, and 20,000 miles if you complete three. Tickets purchased prior to April 1 don’t count towards the promotion, and the bonuses are not cumulative — the number of roundtrips you fly (up to 3) determins the number of bonus miles you earn.

Registration is required. Oddly, it’s not required prior to purchasing tickets or even prior to travel, it’s required within 30 days of travel that you want to count and by June 30.

  1. It rejected me (Prem Exec). Instead I got a “Special bonus for elite members” which is a flat 1,000 miles per roundtrip (5,000 for business or first). Same dates.

  2. Thanks for passing it on Gary; I’m a 1K and just got an error:

This promotion is not available or an error has occurred. Please try again later or contact Mileage Plus Customer Service for assistance locating this promotion.

  3. I got the same error as well… I don’t have any status with UA or CO:

“This promotion is not available or an error has occurred. Please try again later or contact Mileage Plus Customer Service for assistance locating this promotion”

  4. Just today I posted on my blog a few of my “wishes” to enhance Mileage Plus, specifically calling out the loss of an elite choice this year AND the fact that United had previously offered promos to earn bonus miles after x-amount of flights.

I swear I had no prior knowledge of this 😉

  5. My brother-in-law (Prem Exec) got this offer, but 4/5/6 RTs required. Me (a nobody) got an error.

  6. A 1K … got an offer
2,500 bonus award miles 3 roundtrips
10,000 bonus award miles 4 roundtrips
20,000 bonus award miles 5 roundtrips

  7. would love AA to match this.

This year seems to be the year of “targeted” offers. {:

  8. I’m a 1K and also got the “This promotion is not available or an error has occurred” message. 🙁

  9. 1K offer i received:

    Ticketing dates: April 1, 2011 through June 15, 2011
    Travel dates: April 1, 2011 through June 15, 2011
Offer: Earn 1,000 bonus award miles for every qualifying roundtrip you purchase and fly on United®, United Express® or Continental® from your home airport between April 1 and June 15, 2011, plus earn an additional 2,000 bonus miles when you fly first or business class.

  10. Looks like the bonus for this 1K 1000 miles for every r/t, and 2000 if it was purchased first or business.

  11. Got this deal. I rarely fly United although I used to credit my SQ miles to them. I have no status but I do have 60,000 miles. Offer is 3 RTs = 20,000 bonus miles. Would love some ideas for dirt cheap qualifying roundtrips from LAX.

  12. As a 1K, got the same offer GA did. Perhaps its because I’ve been crediting to CO?

  13. Sweet! I got this offer! (I currently have no status with United, but I’ve had the United account for years and had a lot of miles parked in it).

I had also flown United in the past week if that made any difference. I may need to reconsider my upcoming travel plans with this offer.
