More Answers on the End of Capital One’s 100,000 “Match My Miles” Offer for the Venture Card

I’ve gotten a flurry of emails about my post this morning that the Capital One “Match My Miles” 110,000 point signup bonus is over. Let’s see if I can clarify.

  1. But I still see the offer on their home page. As of right now, the Capital One Venture Card website still shows Alec Baldwin talking about the offer. The site still says the offer is on. Word last night was that it would end at 8am Eastern. Webflyer broke the news this morning. Here is Capital One’s press release saying that it’s over. I suspect they just haven’t taken the offer down yet, and that if anyone applies while they’re still advertising the offer that they’ll manage to get in under the wire, or at least be able to push to get the deal honored. But it’s a “your mileage may vary” sort of thing. Update: When you click through even on the home page, it now says the deal is over.

  2. A Customer Service Rep told me I had until tonight to submit my miles to be matched. My information doesn’t come from a customer service rep, I’m told by the company that they will still allow 45 days for approved cardholders to submit information for the match. But that doesn’t mean you should wait, if there’s a passcode on your account, match now! Still, I’m not too worried about this one given the assurances I’ve received. And now the press release even confirms that approved cardmembers “still have 45 days from when they opened their account to register their miles and qualify for the match.”

  3. I applied for the card but haven’t been approved yet, am I out of lukc? Capital One has said they will honor the offer for approved cardmembers whose accounts were opened before 8am this morning. I will try to get clarification on “what about folks who applied before the deadline but weren’t yet approved?”

Update: I just got the following confirmation from Capital One. I asked:

Will Capital One still honor the offer for folks that applied during the offer, but whom Capital One simply didn’t make a decision on approval prior to 8am this morning? (E.g. applied a couple of days ago, they get approved tomorrow, will they still be able to get the match?)

    And got the following reply:

They will still be able to participate (assuming they are eventually approved for a card) as long as they applied during the promotion.

All around a very classy way for Capital One to handle it, despite the restrictions that they had warned everyone about up front.

  1. Thanks for your work on this Gary! YOU really are the king of credit card sign up promos and your inside connections really bring real value to the community.

  2. Thanks Gary. I’m also on the same thread, but I think the clarification will ease a lot of people’s worries. Did you get your passcode yet by any chance?

  3. Le sigh. Got miles for my account and my wife’s, but not my business account yet. Twiddling thumbs and waiting. 🙂

  4. Got my 100,000+ points credited even before receiving credit card statement. Glad I made the move. Used the card while traveling internationally saving the currency fees.

  5. My understanding is the deal is STILL ALIVE. You can apply by phone for both business and personal until 11pm Eastern (8pm Pacific) tonight (5 April 2011). Call and confirm for yourself if you’re still interested. Personal: 1-800-410-0200. Business: 1-866-390-5934.
Personal app requests your total bank balances and total investment account balances (if any).

  6. I’ll add my thanks, Gary, for your great work on this promo.

Nobody really focused on the earnings potential of this card, but am I correct that it’s basically a two percent rebate card on all purchases — which can be used to pay for all travel purchases?

If so, this is a pretty decent card to have, especially since it has no foreign currency transaction fees. But after the first year, it has a $65 annual fee. In my mind, this is a non-starter and I (along with most flyertalkers) will cancel. If you have any further conversations for the Cap1 folks, I would suggest mentioning this looming problem for them, if in fact they want to keep us all as customers.

  7. Do the points have to be redeemed while still a cardholder? Will probably drop the card after first year to avoid annual fee.

  8. @seven yes i should think so (unless you can transfer them to another capital one points account via another product)

  9. Thanks! Wife and I just got our points…looking at teh various threads on MP and FT deciding what to use the points on! Thanks Gary.

  10. Please note that this match my miles offer is still good to those who recived a Venture card and have not matched yet. Call customer service to get your pin number (16 digits) and register at submitmymiles.com
