Via Deals We Like, Chase has upped the ante on its Marriott Rewards Premier Visa with a 50,000 point signup bonus in addition to a free night at a category 1 through 4 hotel.

The Premier card comes with 15 nights towards Marriott elite status each year, and a free night at a category 1-5 property. And like Chase’s British Airways, Hyatt, Priority Club, and Continental Presidential Plus card, this one comes with no foreign currency transaction fees.

Deals We Like says the $65 fee is waived the first year, but I don’t see that on the application page.

Personally I’d focus on the British Airways Visa for now, since the 100,000 mile signup bonus they’re offering is bigger and both cards are issued by Chase. Many folks will have difficulty getting two Chase cards at the same time or within weeks of each other. But if you got the British Airways card last time 100,000 miles were on offer, this is a good new bonus from Marriott to consider.

I just signed up for the BA card. 100,000 miles is a sweet deal. The other benefit of the marriott card is that for each $3,000 spend you get one elite nite. Not a free night. When you are trying to re-up for platinum or gold and you don’t have the time to spend the nights, this is a great alternative.

Thanks for pointing out the fee. The $65 fee is waived with the regular premier credit card application that gives 30K points, not for the promotion application where you can get 50K points.

Another down to the Marriott is the free night certificate only lasts 6 months. And 50K doesn’t get much at Marriott. The best rewards are the air/hotel combos that start at 200K.

50,000 points gets quite a bit at Marriott like two nights in a Category-5 hotel or one night in a Tier 3 Ritz-Carlton. 50,000 points is easily a $500 value for hotel nights.

Plus the free night certificate is an annual benefit and in renewal years the certificate is good for category 5 hotels.

Got a letter (important changes to your account) today from Chase. The “annual membership fee” has been increased to $85.
