American Express is offering a 75,000 point signup bonus for the Business Gold Rewards card, only through tomorrow.

The bonus requires $10,000 in spend within four months. The annual fee is waived the first year, then it’s $175.

Some will find the card useful to keep if they spend large amounts in bonused categories — triple points on airline tickets and double points on gas, advertising and shipping.

For most, it’s a bonus play. I got the card back in December with a 50,000 point bonus. I don’t have heavy advertising spend, and my airfare spend goes on the Premier Rewards Gold card which I’m keeping for that purpose even when I start paying an annual fee.

I don’t get any referral credit on this one, wanted to pass it along for those who find it valuable. The terms and conditions say that if you have had a Business Gold, Green or Platinum Card account within the last 12 months you are not eligible for the bonus. Those, of course, are business charge cards. It does not exclude the Starwood Business American Express credit card, so if you have had or are applying for that one you are not necessarily ineligible for this (and likely vice versa). Of course you may not be able to get both just in terms of the number of new cards American Express will give you, that’s an open question dependent on your own credit and history with Amex.

Amex is really promoting this card… I wonder why. With so much devaluation if MR points they must be desperate for new clients. They need more promotions to transfer points or partner with Alaska… or both.

If you have a Business Platinum card open for one business, do you think you could you get the 75k bonus if you got this card in your name but for a second business (both have separate EINs)?

Gary- With the bus version of the Premier Rewards card do you get 15k bonus pts with 30k in annual spend?

Gary, do you know of the best/cheapest way to pay mortgage with a credit card? I figure if I have to put my mortgage payment on a CC a couple of times, the fee would be worth it for the right bonus.

  5. Gary said,

@maximizer don’t know a good way where the fee won’t outpace the value of the points

Maybe you should make a top ten list of cards that you don’t get referral credit for but are still good for people to get anyway.

  7. Gary said,

@Stvr – my top 10 lists always include cards that I get referral credit for and those that I do not, the best cards are the best cards whether they are beneficial to me or not. I’ll update that list shortly, thanks!

I received a 100k offer with the exact same terms. YMMV, but I think a savvy user might be able to pump the offer up a bit.

Gary, I missed out on last years Premier Rewards 75k offer and have been waiting every since for anything better than 25k points. Any idea when or even if they will up the bonus points for that card?

Hey Gary et all – Just a heads up that we recently got a 75K Miles Business Amex letter for a required 2000 spend by Dec 10.

In your post i see 3X points for advertising, but the link says 2X. One of my largest expenses is internet ads. How do I find out if that qualifies?

  12. Gary said,

@Bruce W I will fix the post but yes Googleads for instance qualify

Gary, too bad no referral credit for you. I applied and was approved but had to call by phone as they seemed to be having Internet issues. Curious your thoughts after first year when fee kicks in as to whether to hold or cancel. I don’t expect to spend too much in bonus categories because of other cards I have. I’ll go back and read your previous thoughts on sign-up bonus cards.

  14. Gary said,

@Rick C – my take is if you aren’t spending in bonus categories then the card isn’t worth keeping first year. I keep my personal version of this card — Premier Rewards Gold — because I do enough airfare spend on the card (at 3 points per dollar) to kick in the 15k bonus as well, so I’m really earning 3.5 points per dollar on airfare.

Thanks Gary (and meant say thanks for the link in the first place). How is Amex with retention bonuses at fee time?
