Rob points me to the ‘Good Deal Premium Cabin Fares’ thread on Flyertalk, where we find that Delta is running a pretty amazing business class sale on some transatlantic routes.

Probably the easiest place to find seats to purchase is Kayak.com, where you’ll be transported to the Delta website.

Using ITA Software I searched for Delta flights in business class between New York JFK and Istanbul, and set the trip length from 6-9 days, looking at flights in May and came up with the following calendar:

That was before I looked up fare rules, even, and found that there are several cheap business class fares ranging from $978 – $1293 plus taxes which have varying rules such as 14 and 21 day advance purchase requirements, some have 7 or 10 day minimum stay rules.

Here’s the fare breakdown:

This is business class as we enter peak season, even. Come the summer coach prices will be this much or more.

There are similar prices to Moscow as well (albeit with fewer dates available).

These fares certainly won’t last.

I just paid $1,450 for a round trip economy class on TK for the first week of June. Woof.

Those fares are low and they are available right now. Many times I see these things and there is nothing available. With ITA calender it is quite easy. Russia sounds pretty interesting to me. Not sure what I would do in Turkey. Never been to either place

@robertw: Istanbul is one of the most amazing cities I have ever been to. The fact that it was a complete surprise to me was an added bonus. Tons of history, great walking city, incredible food. Run, don’t walk. I mean, fly, but well, you get the picture.

Gary, I went to the Flyertalk thread you posted. In the thread it looks like availability is about as scarce as Delta Skymiles are to redeem. Haven’t tried myself.

Availability was really good for Istanbul when I checked this very early this morning, not so good for Moscow

What kind of seating should we expect on these flights? According to the latest list from your fellow blogger, JFK-SFO is guaranteed lie-flat biz, but JFK-IST is not.
