On Tuesday I outlined extensively the benefits (and few downsides, such as fuel surcharges with some transfer partners and the minimum spend requirement) for what’s probably the best current mileage offer out there: The Business Gold Rewards Card® from American Express OPEN which has 75,000 Membership Rewards points as a signup bonus after $10,000 spend within four months.
This is a very short-lived offer, available for less than a week, and this weekend is your final opportunity to get it as the offer is scheduled to be pulled Monday morning by 11am Eastern.
• LIMITED TIME OFFER: Earn 75,000 Membership Rewards points when you spend $10,000 in the first 4 months of Card membership.
• 3X points on airfare
• 2x points on purchases in the U.S. for advertising in select media, gasoline at U.S. stand-alone gas stations, and shipping
• 1X points on other purchases
• Points are earned only on eligible purchases. Bonus points limitations apply.
• $0 introductory annual fee for the first year, then $175
• Introductory annual fee for Additional Gold Cards in the first year is $0; then, $50 for the first Additional Gold Card and no fee for other Additional Cards
• Terms & Restrictions Apply. Offer expires January 28th, 2013.
This is a pretty strong offer, Membership Rewards points are my third favorite currency behind Chase Ultimate Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest. This is a good card for the first year with the $0 annual fee, but whether it makes sense to keep after that first year likely depends on how much advertising, gas, and shipping spend you do since those are fairly unique bonused categories.
The value of the 75,000 Membership Rewards points as a signup premium is huge, of course. And my post from earlier in the week outlines some ways you can help yourself to meet the minimum spend requirement, as well as some of my favorite uses for the points.
The Business Gold Rewards Card® from American Express OPEN with 75,000 points after $10k spend within four months ends in about 72 hours. And by way of disclosure, folks signing up for the card using my link do provide me with referral credit.

I disagree with you that this is “the best current mileage offer out there.” The long-standing Sapphire, AAdvantage and US Airways card offers are significantly better for most folks. This offer is only special if you have a particular need for AMEX points. Personally, I’m passing on it because while I could generate $10,000 in spend, it will be a hassle. I’m better off putting that spend on other cards and generating more miles.

I agree – if it was 5k, I would consider it.

last chance until the next time.

In the interest of full disclosure it would be nice if all the bloggers listed precisely what they receive from the Credit Card Companies for pushing these “LAST CHANCE” postings. Some do acknowledge they receive kickbacks, but in fairness we should know what it is worth as objectivity typically takes a back seat when $$ are involved

I don’t necessarily agree that bloggers need to disclose their exact compensation from pitching credit card offers — frankly that’s a private business transaction — but it would be naive to believe that money has NOTHING to do with the blogosphere heavily pitching “good but not fantastic” credit card promos like this one.
I remember being surprised when I learned how much the referral credit card bonuses were. I had assumed they were something like 5 bucks. I think something like 10 times that is closer to the mark, although my information is not first hand.

If I have only a personal Platinum card, will I still qualify for the bonus for this one?
Gary said,
@LK a personal platinum card will not disqualify you from the bonus on a business gold card

I just received my card and activated it. Is there any risk to losing out on the bonus if I link the card to my personal cards? I’d rather only have one login with Amex, but when I applied initially, it seemed to only work if I chose the option saying I wasn’t an existing cardholder.
Gary said,
@BQ that should not be a risk

Does anyone know, if I get an additional card on my account for my husband will his spending count toward the $10K as well?

So what would be the best use of the acquired points (figure 85-90k at the end) for two people? I understand about all the business/first redemptions, but that’s of little value to me as I am trying to travel with my wife.
Gary said,
@FlyingBear where do you live and where do you travel? Wait for a 30% or 40% transfer bonus to British Airways and use for short haul non-stop flights on American or Alaska?
Gary said,
@AK yes it will
jon said,
can one deposit these miles in either United or Alaska frequent flyer accounts? thanks
Gary said,
@jon – no, but you can redeem for united flights through aeroplan, ana, or singapore which amex points do transfer to… and alaska flights via british airways, cathay’s asiamiles, delta skymiles, or air france klm flying blue which are amex transfer partners
