Seasons Greetings

I am off to Sydney, Australia today flying up front with Virgin Australia (Seat 1A). Not sure which aircraft. Hoping a new one. I will be up in Sydney for Christmas with various branches of the family (and one or two I am trying to avoid!).

Not decided where for NY Eve. I actually wanted to be on the Sunshine Coast, Australia but that didn’t work out so my options are curently:

  • Paris, France
  • London, England
  • Brisbane, Australia
  • Lismore, Australia
  • Sydney, Australia
  • Hobart, Australia
  • Melbourne, Australia
Nice to be spoiled for choice. Any advocates for any locations?

  1. Martin – there’s only 1 aircraft. 773 ER. Unless VA has recently purchased additional (new) aircraft?

  2. I will be in Brisbane for NYE – come join the party! Staying at Novotel Airport and trying to get a really late check-out time! I would like to go to Cloudland for their party but I don’t know if there are any tickets left. Son, Daughter in law and grandbub arriving from California on New Years Day to stay with us in Lennox Head (just south of Byron Bay). Its a great place, all welcome – just send a note via email.

  3. Thanks for noting this. Virgin has a range of aircraft domestically now ranging from Embrear to the newest A330 on SYDNEY-PERTH: http://www.virginaustralia.com/nz/en/experience/on-board-the-flight/our-fleet/

On the SYD-MEL routes, you are correct in noting the workhorse is the 773 (Boeing 737-700). They do have a newer aircraft on this sector: the 737-800 which has been fitted out beautifully and feels far nicer than the 700s: http://www.ausbt.com.au/first-pics-first-virgin-australia-plane-lands-at-sydney-airport and http://www.ausbt.com.au/inside-virgin-australia-s-new-boeing-737-with-futuristic-sky-interior

Alas the plane, I got was a 700 but the service was great.
