I am on Facebook and Twitter - don’t miss any more posts like these!

June is definitely the month of credit card promotions and it’s been great so far! I’m really excited, because this is the highest offer historically that I have seen – last year they had a 50,000 points offer, but this is higher!

You can access the application link here. (Note that I do not receive a credit for applications through this link at the time of publication as this offer is better than my affiliate offer. Thanks for your support!)

This card has no annual fee, so that means an essentially free $200+ signup bonus value with a churn! This is great, because with no annual fee this means free 12,000 airline miles which is almost 50% of your economy ticket to florida (if you are inclined to use your points that way). Pairing this with the CIBC no annual fee promo, and that’s not a bad load of points for cards that are free in Canada!

The details are as follows:

  • Receive 20,000 bonus BWR Points after your first eligible purchase††
  • Spend $1,000 before July 31, 2013 on your new card and receive additional 30,000 bonus points†††.
  • Receive another 10,000 bonus points†††† when you spend an additional $1,000 before August 31, 2013

For the † here is the wonderful fine print. It seems like this will be for people who are not currently cardholders, although the wording is very unclear.

††This is a one-time offer for new MBNA MasterCard credit cardholders, or existing MBNA MasterCard credit cardholders who qualify for an additional account. To qualify for this offer, cardholders must use their card for at least one purchase transaction. Please allow 8-10 weeks from the transaction date deadline for the bonus points to be posted to the account. Limit one-time 20,000 bonus BWR points offer (no cash value) per new account.  This promotion is offered by MBNA and may be amended or cancelled at any time without further notice.†††This is a one-time offer for new MBNA MasterCard credit cardholders or existing MBNA MasterCard credit cardholders who qualify for an additional account. That means 60,000 points for $2,000 in spending, which for me isn’t hard at all. This offer is available until August 31, 2013.

You can redeem for hotels which range from between 8,000 to 36,000 points here – however they don’t say what hotels are in each category so I would assume you would need to call. But what I like is their airline transfer partners, which you can see here:

Airline Transfer Partners

My favourites here are US Airways Dividend Miles, American Airlines AAdvantage, and Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan. Alternatively you could transfer to Aeroplan but I don’t particularly like the value of those. I value AAdvantage at around 1.9 cents, so that means those 60,000 miles are around $225 for me. This is huge for Canada because it’s AA miles and/or AS miles for free. All other cards in Canada that have direct earning or transfer options to AA or AS require annual fees, so this is really great! Of course, if you don’t have a significant amount of either of those miles, then transferring to Aeroplan would be probably be the best option. I do not recommend transferring to Air Miles because I’m personally biased, although you might find use for them.

(Now all American Green Card Holders who are still reading can laugh at our measly 12,000 miles signup offers :))

It’s also worth $225 in Wal-Mart GCs, which is not a bad option either (especially for those mile rich, cash poor, like me).

  2. Mike S. says:

Can you buy esso gift cards to qualify for the spending requirements?

  3. jerry305 says:

Aeroplan has periodically offered a top-up bonus for transferring points in. In the last round, a 10,000 mile transfer was topped up to 12,000 miles.

If that promo is repeated again, then this 12,000 Aeroplan miles could be converted in as 14,000 miles.

No guarantee, but it might be worth hanging on to the BW points instead of converting right away.

    Make sure you keep track.
They still haven’t given us the 40000 sign up from last year, even though it is extremely easy to track over $1000 in spending for a month. The customer service on this has been terrible.

Ya, I read that in the FT thread MBNA has been a complete pita. Well I guess their travel partners are about as good as their phone agents, LOL!

  5. Paula says:

Awesome churn, but….I already had this card during the 50K bonus and only cancelled it 4 months ago. Do you think I’ll qualify for the points again?

  6. Jay says:

I also cancelled mine 3 months ago and will retry.
If you actually use the points for Best Western hotels you can get anywhere from $400-600 in hotel stays for that 60,000, which I think is worth more than 225 in giftcards or 12-15000 Aeroplan points, but to each his or her own…
