Stay Twice at a Marriott Earn 5,000 Southwest Points

Marriott’s MegaBonus promotion just started, however, at the same time there is also a MegaMiles promotion that is not talked about as often. With this promotion you will instead earn bonus miles and you must credit your stay to earn miles, not points.

What is the promotion? Between February 1 and April 30, 2014, or every two paid stays at any Marriott hotel, earn 5,000 Southwest bonus points – up to 50,000 bonus points. You’ll also earn the normal 600 Southwest points for every paid stay. So you can earn the following total points:

  • 2 stays = 6,200 points (currently equals $103)
  • 4 stays = 12,400 points (currently equals $206)
  • 6 stays = 16,800 points (currently equals $280)
  • 8 stays = 24,800 points (currently equals $413)
  • 10 stays = 31,000 points (currently equals $516)
  • 12 stays = 37,200 points (currently equals $620)
  • 14 stays = 43,400 points (currently equals $723)
  • 16 stays = 49,600 points (currently equals $826)
  • 18 stays = 55,800 points (currently equals $930)
  • 20 stays = 62,000 points (currently equals $1,033)

*remember, starting March 31, Southwest is devaluing their program. To figure out how much each point is worth on a Southwest “Wanna Getaway Fare” divide the total number of points by 70 (currently you divide it by 60).

Can I double dip the MegaBonus and MegaMiles promotion? While each stay will only count towards one of the two promotions (based on your earning preference for that stay), you can register for both and take advantage of both promotions. You will just need to change your earning preference for each stay depending on what you want that stay to count towards.

For example, if you were targeted for the stay twice earn a free category 1-4 night as the MegaBonus promotion, you can max out that promotion and then change your earning preference to miles and then max out the MegaMiles promotion.

How do I register for this promotion? To view this promotion you must change your earning preference to miles and select Southwest Airlines in your Marriott profile. Once your preferences are changed you can then register for the MegaMiles promotion in the “Your Promotions” section of your account.

Is this a good promotion? I personally think this is a great promotion for those that like to collect Southwest points – for every two stays you’ll earn $103 value in Southwest money! This is a good way to recoup some of the cash laid out for your stay.

Will the bonus points count towards the Southwest Airlines companion pass? Unfortunately no. However, the base 600 points per stay WILL count.

A couple days ago I emailed Marriott and asked them if I can do both the MegaBonus and the MegaMiles promotion (I received a targeted email from Southwest airlines regarding the MegaMiles promotion). Marriott said no.

do you have to book through Marriott to get the points?

@garrett – stays booked through a third party (i.e., hotels.com) are not supposed to give you points or nights/stays towards status.
