“I just got the Southwest Companion Pass (thanks to your tips on how to go about this!), but wanted to know if I can book my ticket using points for my husbands account and then add him on as my companion?”
This is a great question and the inner workings of the Southwest Airlines Companion Pass is definitely one that raises a lot of confusion. The best think about the companion pass is it’s flexibility and lack of too many rules!
The short answer to your question is YES! You can use points from another account to book the ticket of the companion pass holder and still use your companion pass to book the companions ticket. When using the companion pass it does not matter how the first ticket was booked – points from your account, points for any other account, free ticket from rapid rewards 1.0 program, paid ticket.

I am interested in how to do this. I have the companion pass, but my husband has the points in his account. He is also the companion I have assigned. Do I book the flight on his account naming me as the passenger? But then how do I book a companion flight for him?

@velvet – Book a reservation under your husbands account in your name with your rapid reward number. Once the reservation is booked, go back into your account and add your husband on to your reservation as your companion. Or you can call southwest and they will book everything with you.
