Ok, no great news there. If you read my earlier posts then you already know about it. After bringing the 747-8i to Delhi on August 6 and launching the new lounge in Delhi Terminal 3 a week after, Lufthansa is putting the Bangalore-Frankfurt route up for operation over Los Angeles.

As per an announcement on the website of Lufthansa, from 13 September 2012, FRA-BLR will be flown on the new plane, which means BLR-FRA will go to the 747-8i from 14th September 2012 onwards. Bookings for the new plane are now open.

The launch of these two routes will complete Lufthansa’s plans to upgrade its Indian routes for the time being, along with the upgrade of the Business Class product on Munich – Mumbai – Munich.

  1. Ansh says:

High time Lufthansa upgraded its fleet and service to their biggest market.

  2. Bruce says:

Any plans for other US cities?

  3. AJ says:

@Bruce, the first four destinations were going to be Washington DC, Delhi, Bangalore and Los Angeles.I think LH only gets 4 planes from Boeing this year. I am not aware what is the plan for the rest 16 planes on order.

  4. AJ, a point to note. There is no aircraft called the 747-800. It is the 747-8i.

Also the introduction sequence is IAD, DEL, BLR. ORD, LAX.

  5. AJ says:

Thanks for picking up the mistake Devesh. Corrected now.

  6. @devesh – the correct sequence for the 747-8 is IAD DEL BLR LAX ORD…..AND BLR was not put in operation over LAX the plan had always been IAD DEL BLR LAX so BLR did not get moved in any order, it had always been #3. LH should see 747-8 #4early october and should be in service to LAX by end of october barring any delivery delay by BA.

  7. @LufthansaFlyer – thanks for the correct sequence. However, I don’t remember claiming the sequence for Bangalore was changed. I had the information long before it was announced. LH asked me not to disclose it and I obliged them.
