Last year in March, Jet Airways had introduced a promotional discount of 20% for domestic redemptions in Jet Airways Economy and Premiere Cabins, only if you booked the redemption tickets online. This promotion was extended till March 31, 2013, and now has been further extended till September 30, 2013.

As per this promotion, if you redeem your Jet Privilege miles online (and complete the ticketing online), you get a 20% discount which is automatically factored in while displaying the redemption. However, the T&C clearly state that We will be unable to extend the 20% OFF on redemption JPMiles offer, towards such cases wherein regular JPMiles have already been redeemed prior to March 13, 2013 for award travel to be undertaken between October 1, 2012 and September 30, 2013.

In this case, if you see more seats open on your dates of travel of your redemption tickets, it may be an idea to first book new tickets using your miles, and then cancel the existing ones. Be aware that if you are not Gold or Platinum with Jet Airways, cancellations will cost you 500 JP Miles. Also, all cancellations will be charged a transaction fee on Jet Airways.

Jet Airways, building on the success of the domestic redemption promo, also introduced a new promotion in January 2013, where the Gulf & ASEAN country routes would get a 25% discount on online redemptions, but only for Economy cabin. Like I had written earlier in my analysis of this promotion, I don’t find this a specially lucrative promotion, because you’d potentially be out of pocket for a lot of money, including fuel surcharges. If the same promotion was for business class, I’d give it a thumbs-up, however, in this case, it is a no go for me, because I can book revenue tickets on slightly higher pricing than this.
