5,500 United Miles per Hyatt Stay Sep 1-Oct 31

Hyatt Gold Passport currently has a special offer of 5,000 bonus miles per stay for United 1K members for paid stays between September 1 and October 31. Promotion registration is required.

Normally Gold Passport members can choose to earn miles rather than hotel points for hotel stays. Paid stays earn 500 miles per stay with United Airlines regardless of Hyatt hotel brand. Hyatt Place budget stays earn the same 500 miles per stay as a luxury Park Hyatt.

Gold Passport members will earn 5,500 United miles per hotel stay with this promotion.

Hyatt Place Fremont, California  is $71 AAA rate tonight.  5,500 miles for $78.21 after tax works out to 1.4 cents per mile. That is mileage run value without flying.

As pointed out by Lucky in his One Mile at a Time blog and Gary Leff in View from the Wing the terms do not specifically state you need to be a United 1K member to participate in this promotion.

Then again, this Hyatt Gold Passport/United Airlines offer may turn out to be restricted to United 1K members. Time will tell how the promotion plays out.

The latest forecasts from major hotel industry research firms indicate the remainder of 2009 and most of 2010 will still see declining hotel rates and occupancy barely increasing. Hyatt is known for being fairly liberal with promotions and this could be a good opportunity for any United Mileage Plus member to earn some decent mileage bonuses through hotel stays.

Personally, I see this as a huge bonus if my Mileage Plus no current status condition allows me to earn 5,500 miles per Hyatt stay as I am staying for 15 nights to requalify for Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond elite from the recent fast-track promotion. My United Mileage Plus account is currently at 22,000 miles and I would be quite happy to be flying to Europe in United economy class this coming winter.

Who knows?  

Hyatt and United may be sending Ms. Loyalty Traveler to Europe in Business Class this winter if all works out well.

October 11 Loyalty Traveler Update:  – I have not seen any evidence of this promotion applying for United Milesage Plus members who are not 1K members. Hyatt Gold Passport also came out with a longer duration promotion for earning 5x bonus miles after every 2 nights with a variety of airlines through December 31, 2009.

For most airline partners this means 500 base miles per hotel stay, plus 2,500 bonus miles every two nights.
