Las Vegas Bellagio Christmas display

Las Vegas Bellagio Christmas is famous for its elaborate displays in the hotel conservatory. Las Vegas Bellagio Christmas this season has a large Christmas tree with a sleigh and flying reindeer. They appear to be lifesize. A moving penguin display is adorable on one side of the room and polar bears on other side.

Checked into Aria yesterday. CityCenter Las Vegas and Aria Resort is my style. Beautiful architecture. Lines, angles and colors.

I really like the Aria hotel design. I was offered a suite upgrade at check-in for $75. Turned it down and kept wondering all night if I made a bad decision. Suites are normally $400+ per night and my basic room was free through the Expedia.ca SAVE300 deal. Even the basic rooms here have all the high-tech gizmos.

Do you ever try the $20 trick to get an upgrade? I myself have not worked up the courage to try it… 🙂

Ed – I tried the $20 trick twice at MGM and got shot down both times.

I have read many upgrade tips listing the $20 trick. Results may vary.

Personally I do not recall having tried it, although with conversation about room types at a hotel I have had many discount upgrade offers made at the desk over the years as I tried to get a preferred room.

I also ask to change rooms if I do not like the room I receive and I feel disappointed about the hotel stay right at arrival.

My best tip is see what you get at the hotel with the room you booked and if you find you really want something better, then go ask for it.

TripAdvisor has enough reviews on most hotels to get an idea of what you might want and what to avoid.

A quick hotel study once on site might convince you that you want a room on the other side of the hotel or a higher floor or a bigger space.

Talk with the desk staff about room types at check-in. Let the desk staff know when you are checking in to the hotel if you want proximity to the ice machine or to the elevator. Or if you want to be away from the pool at the quiet end of the hall.

You might have to pay an upgrade fee, often smaller or the same as what it would have cost initially to book the higher category room.
