Hyatt Diamond Member enhancement: 50% bonus if Welcome Points do not automatically post

Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond members receive a welcome amenity with hotel stays. This is often a food/cheese tray and wine at full service hotels. At hotels in the U.S., Canada or the Caribbean members can choose to receive points instead of the food & beverage amenity.

Hyatt Gold Passport members receive a welcome amenity of 1,000 points at full-service hotels or 500 points at Hyatt Place or Hyatt Summerfield Suites (Hyatt Summerfield Suites is changing brand name to Hyatt House in 2012).

Jeff Zidell, Hyatt Gold Passport VP, posted on FlyerTalk November 2 stating a new policy will offer 50% more points if the Diamond member welcome amenity points do not post automatically. This means you will receive 1,500 bonus points at full service hotels or 750 points at Hyatt Place or Hyatt Summerfield Suites (Hyatt House) when you need to follow-up with Hyatt Gold Passport to request missing welcome amenity points. Remember this applies only to U.S., Canada and Caribbean hotels. Hyatt Gold Passport Diamond members do not have the option of bonus points as a Welcome Amenity for hotel stays in other regions.

Dear FlyerTalkers,

I just wanted to quickly chime in here.

We realize that our success rate at automatically posting the points for the Diamond Welcome Amenity has been less than perfect, and I was very passionate about correcting this.

Obviously, our goal is to post 100% of these points automatically; however, if we fail to do so, then you will now receive a 50% bonus for all Diamond Welcome Amenity points that are manually posted by a Customer Service Representative.

This means that you will receive a total of 750 points (500 plus a 250 bonus) at Hyatt Place, Hyatt Summerfield Suites and Hotel Sierra and a total of 1,500 points (1,000 plus a 500 bonus) at all other Hyatt brands for all manually posted Welcome Amenity points through all channels of communication with Customer Service. The policy is only applicable to hotels in the US, Canada and the Caribbean, as we only offer a points amenity option in those regions.

We hope you appreciate this change, and please keep the ideas and suggestions coming.

Safe travels,

Jeff  [Zidell, VP Hyatt Gold Passport]

Also, Jeff’s message mentions Hotel Sierra stays. This is not a new Hyatt brand, but rather a recent hotel brand acquisition in the extended stay market segment. Summerfield Suites and Hotel Sierra are in the process of conversion to the new Hyatt House brand. Here is my Loyalty Traveler Sep 20, 2011 post on Hyatt House.

Avia Hotels are four upper upscale hotels acquired by Hyatt in the same hotel transaction deal with Hotel Sierra. These hotels became Hyatt properties in September 2011. The Avia Napa property is a fine asset for Hyatt in downtown Napa, California.

FlyerTalk member Hobo13 started the FlyerTalk thread earlier this week on the additional Hyatt Diamond member Welcome Amenity bonus points when told of the policy change by a Hyatt Gold Passport agent after requesting missing points. Shout-out to Hobo13 who I have also seen commenting on Loyalty Traveler.

A follow-up message from Hyatt Gold Passport Concierge states this policy is effective for hotel stays with check-outs October 17 and beyond. At least I think that is what it says. The lack of punctuation makes the message a little less than clear.

In case you are wondering what happens if someone were unscrupulous enough to take a food & wine option at the hotel and then claim to have not received Diamond member Welcome Amenity points, there is reported to be this account statement when you receive F&B at the hotel instead of points.

Now if all the other hotel chains would adopt this policy for automatic posting of welcome amenity points for top elite hotel loyalty frequent guests, some of us could likely bank an additional free night’s worth of points each year. I know I spend some time on emails and the phone every few months chasing down missing welcome amenity bonus points in other loyalty programs.

I can’t edit this post on my iPad. I never tried before, but the page is totally screwed up when I tried to edit on my iPad.

Later today I will fix the day to Wednesday, Nov 9.

Welcome to the time change, BlogWorldExpo 2011 and four hours sleep.
