Westin New York at Times Square

Westin New York at Times Square is a large hotel near the theater district of New York. Numerous Broadway theaters are within a few blocks of the hotel. The Westin Hotel address is 237 West 43rd Street at 8th Avenue. Most of the 40 large Broadway theaters are located between West 41st and West 52nd Streets also with addresses in the 100 and 200 blocks.

Disney’s The Lion King currently at Minskoff Theater West 45th St. This Broadway show has been performed at the Minskoff Theater location for the past six years.

Westin New York at Times Square was the official hotel sponsor of the US Open Tennis tournament. I walked over the street entrance lobby tennis court a dozen times before I realized what I was walking across to reach the escalator.

US Open Tennis was also on display in the 2nd floor main lobby.

Maria Sharapova seemed to be the face of US Open based on the advertisements.

There was a large TV in the lobby showing the matches.

Courtside seats were even better than TV. These are my photos from the US Open trophy ceremony for Mixed Doubles Final Thursday, Sep 6.

New York US Open 308

SPG Amex Stars received complimentary Courtside seats for the daytime session and three of us attended the Mixed Doubles Finals Match Thursday September 6 to see Ekaterina Makarova (Russia) and Bruno Soares (Brazil) defeat Kveta Peschke (Czech Republic) and Marcin Matkowski (Poland).

Seeing a final match and the award ceremony was definitely an unexpected bonus for this US Open trip. Brazilian fans were in the adjacent section to our seats and they were cheering Soares on throughout the match.

A gift shop and Shula’s Steak House and Bar were also on the second floor of the hotel.

The Westin NY hotel has 863 rooms in the 45 floor hotel. The fitness center and spa are on floor 23. The fitness center equipment offers west facing views that look out over the Hudson River. I didn’t snap a photo of the view on my one visit and I did not get back there again. My overall impression is the fitness center seemed too small for a hotel with so many rooms. There is no pool on the property.

Spa 23 located on 23rd floor of Westin New York.

My room on the 28th floor had a pleasant urban view, although a bit bright from so many Times Square lights reflecting off the glass windows of the business skyscrapers around the hotel.

The room was basic Westin and comfortable. My 10:00pm arrival left me with a choice of a 10th floor King or 28th floor with two doubles.

I chose elevation.

The shower was truly heavenly and my best friend for two days of humid 90 F weather.

Counter space was severely limited. I moved my toiletries bag to the wall shelf after envisioning it falling into the toilet if I was not careful.

iHome was set to someone else’s home country since the time was off by at least 6 hours. I could not figure out how to change the time and I didn’t want to deal with hotel staff in the room late at night.

Fortunately I carry my own pocket alarm clock when I travel.

The room had a mini-bar, safe and coffee maker.

Westin New York is skyscraper with colored glass windows seen from 8th Avenue.

All in all the Westin New York at Times Square has a good location for visiting the Broadway theater district and functions as a good business traveler’s hotel.
