Hotel Diana, modernist boutique in Tossa de Mar, Spain

When I mentioned I was interested in hotels while touring Tossa de Mar, our guide said we would be walking near a two-star boutique hotel in town.

Hotel Diana is currently ranked by TripAdvisor.com as #4 of 42 hotels in Tossa de Mar. In my article Tossa de Mar, Costa Brava- Blue Paradise I mentioned the town’s population swells from 6,000 year-round to 50,000 in August. Needless to say hotels get booked.

Hotel Diana

The hotel’s website calls the hotel a modernist piece of architecture.

The hotel is a modernist building with over 100 years of history and built by Antoni de Falguera i Sivilla, disciple and collaborator of Antoni Gaudí. It is listed as a unique building by the Tossa de Mar Town Council. The décor and installations have preserved the building’s modernist character while at the same time they have been adapted for the comfort of guests during their stay. Hotel Diana website.

Fodor’s calls Hotel Diana a 1906 Art Nouveau hotel gem.

Hotel Diana spotted by me as we were visiting Chapel of Mare de Déu del Socors, the Fisherman’s Chapel on the old town square. We still had not seen the beach after 30 minutes in town.

After sitting inside the chapel hearing Tossa religious historical stories, our group of nine bloggers from the TBEX Girona Spain conference being hosted on a three day tour by Costa Brava Tourism Board were taken to Hotel Diana. All we did at Hotel Diana was snap photos before heading out the beach side of the hotel. I think I would have enjoyed time in this hotel if we had been given the opportunity for staying the night in Tossa de Mar.

Hotel Diana is a small boutique hotel in the center of the old town of Tossa de Mar outside the medieval walled town on the cliff promontory. Hotel Diana is located across the street from the main beach of Tossa de Mar.

And since proximity to the beach is a selling feature for Hotel Diana I thought I’d send some readers Lauren’s way since she is in my only photo showing the beach from Hotel Diana.

I’m in love with this sculpture in the sitting room of Hotel Diana.

I felt sorry for the couple enjoying this room in a quiet setting until a group of camera wielding travel bloggers snapped away the intimate ambiance.

There is a significant feature of this fireplace that can only be seen from certain angles. There are faces in the left and right lower fireplace mantel.

I did not see any rooms at Hotel Diana. I don’t know if we would actually have even visited the hotel on our tour if not for my stated interest to our guide in seeing hotels. Certainly I am glad I spoke up since this Tossa de Mar hotel is something special in its design and location.

The Hotel Diana bi-level Suite Diana with sea view terraces seems to be the top choice of the 21 rooms.

I did not stay at this hotel and I did not see any rooms while visiting. I stayed at Hotel Diana in early September. We had a room with views of the beach and the Vila Vella (Old City) cold also be seen from our room. There were some beach view rooms that also had terraces, although ours didn’t. The common areas of the hotel have some really great architectural features as you show in your pictures, but the inside of the rooms could use some updating.

Overall, if you’re visiting Tossa de Mar, Hotel Diana is in an ideal spot, and it’s definitely worth the few extra euros to get a beach view (as you can see looking at TripAdvisor’s traveler tips for the hotel). The hotel staff was also very friendly and helpful.

Thanks for the hotel review. Considering the cost of hotels in Barcelona, I would jump on the chance to take two extra hours travel to Tossa de Mar to enjoy the suite and beach views.

I love beach towns in the off season. I can see late November to March being great in Tossa de Mar for my travel style.

Summer swimming is quite attractive too.

Nice statue of Diana/Artemis with the wolf.

Looks like a nice place. I’m never sure when someone says that a place needs updating whether they mean it is shabby now or just older styling.

Looks like a great place to explore. I wish I would have been in your only photo showing the beach from Hotel Diana! lol! I can’t wait to go back to the Coast Brava. Did you hear about the Girona Temps de Flors? It occurs in May 2013 and is their annual Flower Festival. Apparently they put flowers on those cathedral steps, all the way up to the church doors. I have seen pictures and it is amazing!
