Choice Hotels was recently added as an American Express transfer partner. Presumably to get people interested in transferring their Amex Membership Rewards points to the Choice Program, they are offering a 50% transfer bonus through November 6th. With the 50% bonus, 1,000 Membership Reward points becomes 1,500 Choice Hotel points. It’s still not the best deal ever since you can routinely buy 1,000 Choice points directly from Choice for only $11, but it is still an improvement over the 1:1 ratio!
The timing may also make this a good choice for anyone participating in the US Airways Grand Slam. The minimum transfer from Choice to count as a hit in the Grand Slam is 5,000 Choice points, which will translate to 1,000 US Airways miles. Since you have to transfer in increments of 1,500 Choice points from Amex, it will cost you 4,000 Membership Rewards points to get this hit (assuming your Choice account is currently at 0). Another option is that you could purchase 2,000 Choice points from Choice for $22 (well, technically you would receive 2,200 points as they have a 10% bonus going on through 11/15) and then transfer 3,000 Choice points from Membership Rewards (at the cost of 2,000 MR points) to reach the minimum of 5,000 Choice points required for a Grand Slam hit. Since I am looking for some affordable “safety hits” for the Grand Slam (more on that soon) at this point, $22 plus 2,000 Membership Rewards point doesn’t sound half-bad.

What do you think? Will you be taking advantage of this transfer option either towards actual hotel stays or for the Grand Slam?
Thanks to onN14putt on Flyertalk for pointing out this limited time offer!
