I’ve been posting a fair amount recently about the Daily Getaway Deals.  These deals have happened once per year for the last couple of years, and are brought to you by American Express and the U.S. Travel Association.  They are designed to get Americans out and exploring more of America.  That stinks for those of you who are not U.S. citizens, but I love the idea of Americans exploring more of their own “backyard”.  International travel is great, but there are plenty of great things to see and do here in the 50 states as well.

With these deals if you pay with an Amex card (yes, any Amex card) you will receive 10% off the purchase price, so I highly recommend doing that if possible.  Also, many of these deals will sell out very quickly.  Within a minute or two in some cases.  There will most certainly be some people who want to make a purchase for some of these deals that won’t be able to because they are all gone.  If there is a pre-sale available for an item you want, I recommend trying to take advantage of it.  Items go on sale each day at 1:00PM Eastern, with pre-sales occurring at Noon Eastern.  The pre-sales typically require you to “like” the company on Facebook to get the code.  Go to the Daily Getaways website for more info on how to participate in available pre-sales.

There are five weeks of deals.  I reviewed Week 1 here, and will be reviewing subsequent weeks in the near future.  For very good deals, I will be doing individual posts related to that deal, such as here.

Here are the Week 2 deals:

  • These deals can be worth it if you were planning on spending money for many of the included services anyway.  However, if you were just planning on paying for a hotel room, you can likely get much less expensive rooms from other deals and promotion codes.

Friday April 20th:

  • A certificate in the form of an e-mail valid for one Friday or Saturday-night stay at the Omni Berkshire New York for $275.  Valid Fridays or Saturdays through December 30, 2012, excluding blackout dates
  • A certificate in the form of an e-mail valid for a 2-night stay at select Omni Hotels & Resorts for $385.  To see a list of all participating locations for this offer, click here.  Valid through December 30, 2012 with Friday or Saturday check-in, excluding blackout dates.
  • A certificate in the form of an e-mail valid for a 2-night stay at select Omni Hotels & Resorts for $280.  To see a list of all participating locations for this offer, click here.  Valid through December 30, 2012 with Friday or Saturday check-in, excluding blackout dates.

  • This deal doesn’t really appeal to me as I can often get these prices with other deals or promotions, but it may be a good deal for some of the properties.  Just be sure to compare to the going rates for the hotel you are interested in.

For me, the best deal this week is the Marriott gift cards.  Do any of the Week 2 deals appeal to you?

The deals are now on slickdeals and fatwallet. Week 3 is going to be nuts. Even though I’m in my 20′s, I’ll still probably need to take something for my heart.

Will Amex an gift card work for the 10% discount?

  2. Looks like I’ll be saving my money. The only good deal seems to be the Marriott GCs.

  3. Carl says:

worth trying, but these deals are tough to get. I tried a couple of times last year at the open and could never get anything.

  4. Benny says:

Nothing good to me. Week 3 is when it starts to look really good!

  5. Tim says:

The Diamond Resorts deal is pretty good for Kauai/Maui. But it is a timeshare company, and the fine print has this doozy….
“Diamond Resorts reserves the right to select alternative accommodations, such as hotel, motel or condominium.”
So if they feel like it, instead of Kaanapali/Poipu they can put you in a Kahului/Lihue motel. Stay classy Diamond.

new to this…where do you go to purchase the daily deal? Do i have to sync my AMEX card on facebook.

  7. mommypoints says:

@Joel, with the Slick Deals and Fat Wallet crew, it will be even more difficult (ie almost impossible) to get in the “hot” deals. Won’t stop me from trying though!

@Perryplatypus, ha ha. There is always an upside to not seeing deals you “have to have”. ;) The Marriott gift cards are a very solid offer if you frequent Marriott hotels for sure.

@Carl, I agree some will be very tough.

@Benny, Week 3 will be hot!

@Tim, that is a scary clause!

@Sil, there is a link in the first paragraph to the Daily Getaways site where you will purchase the deals. No need to sync any cards for this one.
