I have posted several times about how much I enjoyed going to the Summer 2012 Olympics in London, and how I am starting to plan to go to Sochi, Russia in 2014 for the Winter Olympics. Of course, there are no guarantees I will be able to attend, but I am certainly going to try. I made award reservations at some Club Carlson hotels in Sochi, and had the experience of having those reservations pulled out from under me (though I have now received bonus points in exchange for one of the cancellations – the other is still in limbo). I also posted about some of the hotel chains that are in, or on their way to Sochi. However, the Olympics are nothing without event tickets, so here is some just released info regarding those tickets.
According to CoSport, the official source for Olympic tickets for those in the US, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, and several other countries:
Individual Tickets to the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games are expected to go on sale in February 2013. From now until January 7, 2013 you can begin your planning and keep a record of the events you wish to attend by creating an EOI under your CoSport Account. No pricing is available at this time and this process is non-binding. CoSport will later assist you in converting your EOI into a purchase if possible. Participating in the EOI process offers account holders the fullest opportunity to secure individual tickets in anticipation of CoSport’s initial Sochi 2014 individual ticket live sales.
Beginning on December 14th at 12:00 EST, you can choose from a variety of hotel, event tickets, hospitality, and other combinations today by reserving one of the following package types:
Ticket & Hospitality Pass Package: highly sought-after event tickets and access to exclusive hospitality together (starting at US$1,305 per person)
Hotel & Tickets Package: choose from a careful selection of combined event ticket, hotel, transport and dining options to enhance your travels to Sochi (starting at US$710 per person)
This means that if you just want individual event on Friday at noon Eastern you will be able to basically create your “wish list”. Or, if you are interested in getting a package they will be available beginning on Friday starting beginning at the prices listed above.
The ticket purchasing process is described in more detail:
- Expression of Interest: Before tickets become available for purchase customers can view event details as published by Sochi 2014. You will be able to record ticketing preferences online and make plans based on event location and times (not pricing). CoSport may later attempt to convert your “Expression of Interest” into a “Request”. (this is the phase that opens on Friday)
- Request Phase: Customers can submit an application for the tickets they would like to purchase. Pricing for all tickets in their respective seating categories will be available during this phase. Upon closing of the Request Phase, CoSport fulfills every possible request based on available inventory. If a session is over-subscribed (more tickets requested than available) CoSport will conduct a lottery to randomly fulfill requests. CoSport will then communicate results to customers and extend them an opportunity to convert each Request into an “Order”. All requests have equal chances in securing tickets, regardless of date submitted.
- Live Sales: After we enter “Live Sales” all orders will be placed on a first-come, first-served basis. At that point, you will be able to conveniently find tickets on our website, add them to your cart and check-out immediately! If you can’t find the tickets you are looking for, consider visiting our website at a later time. We are constantly requesting tickets from Sochi 2014 and may receive additional allocations throughout the sales period, up until the duration of the Games. Packages are only sold via “Live Sales.”
When I got tickets to the London Games, it was during the “Live Sale” portion just a few weeks before the events. I had great success getting what I wanted at the last minute both in terms of event tickets and hotel rooms on points, but I would much prefer to prepare ahead of time with this one. I remember hearing many complaints last time that people were not getting many event tickets that they initially requested, so I am certainly not expecting to simply request tickets to all my favorite events and expect to magically be granted the ability to purchase all of them…but I will keep trying at each point along the way.
Anyone else watching the Sochi developments and hoping to get tickets to some of the events?
