I really like Hertz points – they are pretty hard to earn, but they are valuable to redeem. As a point of reference, here are Hertz Gold Points rates for standard rentals (that are capacity controlled, but I’ve never had any problem securing):
Free weekend rental day: 500
Free rental day: 600
One free rental day one-way: 1,200
One week: 2,500
Specialty vehicle one week: 4,000
Specialty vehicle four weekend days: 3,000
If I wanted to rent a SUV for a week during ski season I would need 4,000 points (at the standard level). During ski season that could cost hundreds of dollars if you don’t have points. I could get those 4,000 points via this deal for about $173. I can guarantee the rental is selling for way more than that in almost every case. The only potential issue (other than limited availability) is that Hertz has announced they are changing their award chart by increasing the number of points required to rent by about 10% – 15% beginning October 1st. I’m really glad they announced the upcoming changes in advance, so keep that in mind if you decide to purchase points for future use.
Because I know I will get my money’s worth, I do plan to try to purchase a set of points on Monday. I wasn’t able to purchase Hertz points last year, but we’ll see if my luck is any different this time. Anyone else plan to be a buyer as well?
Good luck if you decide to go for any of these packages. They go on sale Monday at 1PM Eastern on the Daily Getaways website.
